Hello ladies,

Just wondering if any women here have been referred to the BCRM at Southmead Hospital in Bristol?

If so, could you give me some insight on the following please??:
1. How long did you wait between being referred and your first appointment/first contact from the clinic?
2. Which tests did your GP do before you went?
3. Which tests did BCRM order for you in your first appointment?
4. How long until your next appointment?
5. How long is their waiting list for procedures like laparoscopy, hsg and eventual IVF?

Thanks in advance!!

Hi blueeyedgirl,

We're with BCRM and so far it has gone:

29 Sep 11 Doc referred - OH had already done two SA and I'd had various blood tests
1 Nov 11 First appt - nurse went through our history and did a scan which showed possible cysts so she referred me for a laproscopy, hysteroscopy and dye. She sent us straight over to the outpatients to see the nurse and do the pre-op questions. OH got appointment for another SA and she wanted more blood from me (they have a daily drop in for giving blood at lunchtime so that is easy)
9 Jan 11 Op & was referred for HSG X ray
19 Jan 11 HSG
2 Feb 11 Appt with consultant - advised ICSI so now have appt with nurse on 21 Feb to start!

I was told the wait for lap would be 12 weeks but it was only 9 (and with Christmas in the middle) and that our next appt with the nurse would be 4-6 weeks but it is only 2 1/2. All my appts have come through in 2-3 weeks (or I have booked them on the phone).

Hope that helps, sorry for the essay but I'm new to this and have not got the lingo yet!

Good luck!

Bear in mind you need to keep on top of them. They 'forgot' to put me on the list for lap & dye so after i'd waited 11 weeks for a letter I called to ask how much longer and was put at the beginning of the list again :growlmad:

I called them to give my PG test results (positive) they booked a scan. I called hysterical to say I thought I was MC, they told me to wait it out. After my doc arranged for me to go to the EPU, and it was confirmed i'd MC, I phoned and told them. Went for the follow up appointment - the consultant had no idae we'd been PG despite the 3 phone calls :growlmad:

And the final straw? I phoned 3 weeks ago to request copies of my notes (to go to another clinic) No problem, we'll send a letter you both need to sign and return. Almost 4 weeks on? No letter in the post :growlmad:

They're good at what they do (as in procedures) but don't expect to feel looked after in terms of notes or aftercare.

SK x

Thanks both.

We've now been referred and I phoned them to ask about approximate wait times and was told they've got a large backlog of appointments and are currently working their way through December's appointments, as their admin person in charge of appointments is off sick.

Was told it'll be 6-8 weeks till I hear from them. But she also said she couldn't see any letters from my GP so I'll have to chase them up as well and see if they've actually got their act together!
