Hi guys,

so my yellow bump turned out :pink:!! She absolutely gorgeous and i stare at her all day!!

So a quickish birth story, basically on the 8 of sept i thought my waters were leaking, hopsital weeren't sure so sent me home to see if anything progressed... It didn't!! Came back the next day they still weren't 100% where the water was coming from but confirmed clear liquor coming from my cervix and concluded it was hind waters, and decided to induce me that day.

At 11am I was given my first pessary, it started contractions but not very strong ones just gave me a tight back, found that walking around really helped ease it off, Then at 9pm the Dr came round and gave me an internal, I was 2cm dialated and 50% effaced, she wanted to break my waters to see if that would make things progress.

I got moved to labour suite and my waters were broken, it felt very wierd but didn't hurt at all (by wierd just a warm gush and you could sorty of feel the difference in your belly. Anyway this did start contractios a bit stronger but I was still ok on Paracetamol, laid in bed with my mum and hubby by my side and dosed through. Was put on ctg and baby was doing fine

At 11pm the Dr came again and examined me... I was STILL only 2cm so she decided I needed the oxytocin drip to speed things up a bit, the drip started at 12 midnight and at 1am they turned it up as my contarctions were still few and far between, by about 1:30am I asked for some gas and air, and boy that stuff is good!! It made me say the craziest things my mum and carl just kept laughing a me. Aparrantly I was sucking away and then they knew when it had hit me coz i'd start giggling to myself!!

Anyway this went they turned the drip up again, which made contractions stronger, i'm not gonna lie they hurt I was aware I was having one but the gas and air was taking the edge off, eventually though, I needed the pethidine... I thought gas and was good that stuff was great lol!!

My husband said I pretty much slept and every now and then took a suck on the gas and air, so I must have been feeling something but a mixture of the two drugs was helping... The drip by this point got turned down as aparrantly baby didn't like the stronger contractions. Eventually the Dr came to examine me again at about 8:30am and I was STILL only 2cm Dialated!! She said i'm not really getting anywhere fast so it's time for plan B.. C section. By this point I was more than happy.

It all happened so fast I was taken into the delivery theatre, and carried on with the gas and air, by this time the pethidine had started to wear off and although the drip had been stopped I was still contracting. For those that are scared of sections, don't be, it was a fantastic experience, no sense of panic, everyone really lovely and reassuring and talked me through every step, once the spinal block was in I didn't need the gas and air and was aware of everything going on.

The block took about 15mins to fully set in, and they began to make incisions, Carl sat at my head end and they put a sheet up, one of the assisting Drs talked me through each step as they were doing and then the time came, for baby to come out, they asked if i wanted the sheet droppped and baby shown to me coming out or to have baby out and midwife bring her round. I chose to watch baby come out, to which hubby announced it's a girl!!

I sort of cried but no tears came (if that makes sense) I think I was so happy for her to finally be here and be safe, but so worn out the tears wouldn't come!! I looked up at hubby and he was all blood shot eyed, so i'm pretty sure he cried too, Baby was given to hubby and he went and had her weighed then he cuddled her while I was sewn back together!! Dr said i'm suitable for a VBAC next time round too so thumbs up to that!

As soon as I could I got skin to skin contact and she nuzzled in straight away it felt amazing, I couldn't quite believe she was here and she was mine! I attempted breast feeding and she latched straight away, the rest of the day was a blur of visiting grandparents and me and hubby dropping off.

We named our baby Kaiya Rose, (chosen by hubby) and was eventually born 12 days overdue on the 08/09/10 via C-sec weighing 8lb.9 she's adorable!! Aparrantly looks like dad, I remained in hospital for 2 days was out of bed the next day, I am uncomfortable and a bit sore from section wound but nothing terrible, the staff were all lovely and changed and passed Kaiya too and from her cot when I wanted her.

We've been home 3 days now, and settling in great.

Good luck to you all, Due, Early or over, any questions about induction, C-sec, drugs message me i'll check every now and then and answer.

Congratulations! It's great to have such a positive story of an induction ending in c- section. Well done.

Congratulations Brownlie!!!! Your story is so lovely and positive!! So glad it went well for you and congrats on your little girl!!!! Your a Mum now!!! WOW!! xxxx

Congratulations hun!! Such a great story. I'm currently in hospital being induced. Had two pessaries and I'm still 2cm. Been worrying about the next stage - drip and waters being broken. But your story has calmed me down :)

enjoy your pink bundle x

Really it's fine, the waters you can't feel them actually breaking them but you do feel them come out, it's a warm gush! It did intensify my contractions, they did hurt, I only needed more paracetamol though and found a posistion change helped, but everyones pain threshold is different, don't be scared to ask for more pain relief, they're more than happy to give it to you.

Again the drip does intensify contractions but the pethidine really helped, it didn't affect baby when she came out with having pethidine she had an apgar of 9!! And as I said i must have felt them as hubby said every now and then i was taking the gas and air in my sleep, but according to notes it was at height of contraction so the drugs were working with the most of it. The drugs did make me drowsy but I was aware of what was going on and able to answer questions and follow commands (the nurse asked me to roll over as the ctg wasn't getting a trace, not because there was anything wrong i was just in awkward position)

And again with me it ended up with c-sec but by the time the block was in the gas and air wears off very quickly and it had been about 5hrs since i'd had pethidine so I was fully aware of everything which was great.

Good luck with your induction, hope it goes well. x

No I didn't feel a thing, felt a bit of rumaging where Dr was feeling for cervix the thing they use to break waters looks scary but like I said you just feel a warm gush!

Thank you so much for posting this, it really has relieved alot of my concerns, and its such a cute touching story to boot too, again thanks for sharing and much congrats to you :hugs: I'm over due and my next doctors appointment is this Wednesday, if things do not look like they are progressing I was going to request a C-section over an induction if at all possible, so this was really informative and positive for me should things go that rout, thank you :) *hugs*

Congrats on your pink bundle, great birth story.
