Burn like, painless rash on LO?

My 17mo DS had a bit of nappy rash yesterday, and last night my DH noticed he was walking a bit funny, almost hunched over. When I stripped him I noticed a red rash on his leg, which looked like a burn! I panicked but it's totally painless, he giggles when I cleaned it as if it tickles. It's at the top of his thigh where his nappy meets his leg so I just presumed it was maybe a bit of nappy rash, but today it is much further down his leg, hot to touch, very red and hard to touch.

I'm taking him to the doctors in 5 hours, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas? I'll try and take a picture.

Sounds a bit like cellulitis? Has he had a bite or scratch or anything that could've got infected?

No nothing at all, although that's exactly what my mum thought! It's just so bizarre, it's as if it is tickling him!?!

Well, even the doctor doesn't know what it is. He have me an antibiotic cream and if it doesn't heal in two days I need to take him back. FX it heals!! I'm just glad he's not in pain.
