LO is breach at the moment, so poss c-section (dont fancy her being manually turned) will this effect bf? is there anything else I should know?

Hmmmm Im not sure, but didnt wana read an run. Hope someone can give you some advice! x

I wouldnt think so, Its when the placenta is gone that stimulates the hormones for bfing.

It was fine. I put my daughter to my breast as soon as I could after the operation - maybe an hour or so after she was born and she latched on straight away. Because my stomach was very sore I was holding her off my stitches for the first few days and this put her at a funny angle to my breasts and made my nipples get very sore. My midwife was great and showed me how to feed lying down (absolute god send) and all was well with the world after that. My milk came in really quickly and I honestly don't think the c-section made any difference to my feeding (barring the positions I felt comfy feeding in). We're 3 months down the road now and all is good. I still find lying down feeding is much more preferable as my scar is still tender.

Good luck with it all.
Happy breast feeding!

If you end up with a planned C-section then make sure you ask for your baby to be given to you as soon as you wake if you have a general. You can still cuddle and BF after delivery, you will just need some help. Women often worry that a section will have an effect on their ability to feed but with the right help there is no reason for you not to be able to feed very successfully. We have some BFing c-section mummies here. :D

I had an emergency c section and it didn't interfere with my breast feeding at all. They gave me Ellis after they'd cleaned her up and we had skin to skin contact and she breast fed while they sewed me up,she latched on straight away with no problem. She didn't feed that well the next day which i attribute to the diamorphine cos she was pretty zonked but from day 2 until now its been great-the normal problems have arisen: extreme exhaustion, self doubt re milk supply, but nothing we haven't handled. I also had a great recovery from my section with no real problems at all and pretty good mobility from about day 3.

I had an emergency c-section and was put right under anesetic after 3 long days of labour and my daughter has breastfed ever since i came round from the anesetic.I think just depends on how determined you are and how well your feeling.

Mine was an emergency csection, but I made it VERY clear they had better not give him formula and that if he was hungry he should be brought to me. He ended up in the NICU for a few hours so I didn't see him for 3hrs after he was born but he wasn't given anything and he nursed just fine. It really didn't effect the nursing besides he didn't do it immediately but in the end it really made no difference, I just liked that Hayden nursed like as soon as he came out

I had an emergency c-section at 29 weeks under general anaesthetic and my daughter was taken straight to NNICU, where she still is. Before the end of the first day, the midwives encouraged me to massage and manually express milk. I had wondered whether I would produce anything given she was so early but I immediately was producing enough clostrum for her tiny tummy. She was being drip fed and they didn't start her on tummy food until I produced enough for her.

3 weeks later and I'm producing gallons for her!

My first was an emergency C-section and my last two were planned C-sections. I breastfed my first two and never had any issues breastfeeding at all. The nurses in the hospital I was at were very helpful in helping the babies latch on correctly and did commence the breastfeeding as soon as I was out of the recovery room.

I think it can take a little longer for the milk to come in. Finn was in neonatal for the first few days, being tube fed, but even then it didnt effect my breastfeeding him after that- he got the hang of it really quick. You just have to let them know you intend to breastfeed- and they willl ask you a million times anyway.(his being in neonatal was nothing to do with the section, or him being breech) Good luck!

I had an emergency c section with my son and i managed ok. I have had no issues at all.

You will be really sore afterwards so it might help to have a pillow to lay baby on when u feed and make sure the nurses and bf consellors give u loads of advice and support. :)

I had a section and managed to breastfeed successfully. It can take a bit longer for your milk to come in but that shouldn't stop you breastfeeding.

Just make sure they are aware you want to bf, and get skin to skin as soon as you can. The main thing is to get the baby latched on to stimulate your milk production.

We're now 6 months in and still excl breastfeeding so it can be done. I go to a local support gp and a lot of the mums had sections and went on to bf successfully.

I had an emergency c-sec and Ellis was given to me as soon as I went into the recovery room and he latched on straight away.

I had an emergency c-section under epidural. I was denied immediate skin-to-skin (don't really know why and am still upset about it), but I wouldn't have been able to hold him anyway as the epi made me shake uncontrollably for several hours during and after. He was put to my breast maybe an hour and a half afterwards while we were in recovery and he latched on clumsily for a few minutes. After that it took us two very difficult and painful weeks to get him to latch on. It also took almost a week for my milk to come in, mainly because he wasn't latching, so the signals weren't getting through to get my production going. I do put these problems down to what happened.

Although it was very hard at first we are plain sailing now.

I had an emergency section and when i came round from being put to sleep i fed my LO straight away and had no problems with breastfeeding after that!

I also had an unscheduled c-section and my son was on the boob less than an hour later in recovery. My midwife was right there with me and she helped get him to latch on straight away. I then left him there for the next few days and my milk was well in by day 3.
