Hi Ladies,

I thought someone here might be able to help me with this.

My DH and I have now been trying for 6 months, and while I know that isn't a long time in the fertility game, I am 35, and we have one son, who I got pregnant with in the first month. So 6 months, right now seems like awhile.

We decided last month that if I didn't get pregnant to go ahead and make an appointment with a fertility specialist. I am not one for waiting around.

So today, we met her, and she did a sonogram. She is going to send me for a HSG after my next period to make sure that my c-section scar hasn't cause a blockage as she didn't like the look of in on the sonogram.

My biggest concern is that she found a small mass as well. She didn't really say much about it or even investigating it. So I am not really sure what is next. It makes me really worried.

hi i dont really know but didnt want to read and run i know its easy to say but try not to worry to much especially as she didnt seem too concerned, maybe the mass is a small blockage of scar tissue
good luck

Sounds like scar tissue from the csection.sometimes it can cause issues and get in the way.sometimes it can cause probs with implantation.gl

This is an issue that I am worried about too, I had a c-section 8 years ago and am getting a scan done in January to see if there is any damage.

I agree that it could well be scar tissue, which would be why she has only arranged a hsg as a result.

Let me know how everything goes. Fingers crossed x

HI all. This is also an issue of concern to me. Like you kirstenc I had a c-section 8 years ago and have been ttc no 2 for 2years. Been to the docs and all looks fine except when I asked whether the c-section could cause scarring and blockage she was non-committal. We have an appt for gynae in Jan so will wait to see what they have to say. How did your scan come about?

hi

we have been TTC for number 2 for 12m now, i have premenstrual spotting which i did not have before having our son (he is 2yrs 6m we conceived him month 1) i had a lap 6 weeks ago (an ultrasound revealed cysts on the c section scar but i was told this would not cause a problem) anyway after the lap i was shocked to be told the consultant had found a lot of scar adhesions from my c section that were pinning my uterus into the wrong position. she was able to remove it all though and also there was some endo (never had endo before) on my uterus from the c section also, which she removed.

my tubes were all clear so now we are TTC again month 1 did not work out but i am hopeful - i have a consultant appointment next week to talk about it all properly so i will update on what she said re the scar tissue.

good news is if it is scar tissue you can have it removed with the lap. re the small mass this could be cysts just like i have? its apparently caused by endometrial lining cells being caught in the c section scar? or also fibroids are common and easily removed so try not to worry

easier said than done not to worry - i have been a maniac over the last 12m at times!!

I really hope things work out for you. I've heard/read that scars on the uterus can cause problems with implantaion. Its been on my mind for over a year now cause I've been trying for that long. But basically I think that it can be fixed. Either way, I hope things will be okay!

Hello ladies, I'm also concerned about scarring from c section. I have 3 children aged 18, 15 and 2 and 2 early miscarriages under my belt . I consider myself to be very very lucky that I fell pregnant in the 1st month of trying with all conceptions. I had an emergency c section with my LO and since giving birth have been ttc for 25 months now. I know that age may be a factor but I did conceive her at age 37 and nearly 38 when she was born. I would of thought by now that we would have a bfp. So far blood tests are ok and DH is having SA on the 25th jan. I can't help but think there is some connection with the c section and will be interested in outcomes of ladies on here with the same issue. I did ask my gp and she dismissed it saying it wouldn't affect fertility, which it quite clearly does going by other ladies experiences. She will refer me to the hospital after results are in from DH SA . Good luck to all on here and hope we all get our bfps real soon .

my GP told me that i was totally fine (from blood tests and ultrasound) and that i should just get on with trying and the spotting i had was one of those things. i pushed and was referred back to a consultant (on private medical) and straight away she said i should have a lap, i was not expecting to find out that my c section had caused such problems with internal scarring after the lap and dye. i know you are not having spotting (the spotting i have does not seem to be because of the c section problem its just lucky in a sense i had it because it made me push) but if i were you I would push for further action and unfortunately the only way to find out about c section scar adhesions is via a lap. Good Luck, hopefully its not that and its just taking some time.

i have a follow up appointment in a few days so i will report back on what she says re the scarring.

Thank you rainbow32. I think I need to be a bit more vocal and pushy. I kind of feel guilty because I already have children, but it's not like I'm asking for ivf as I know i don't qualify. I'm going to make another app with gp next week and ask to be referred now and not after DH SA test results. Otherwise it's another month waiting. Keep me informed on your outcome xx

Hi Ladies,

Hubby and I have been trying for 14 months now with no luck. I had a c-section with my 6 year old but my GP has totally dismissed the idea that this may be causing problems. When I suggested it he talked to me like I was stupid. He did say he would refer me to a gyno but that was October and I've heard nothing. How long did you wait for your appointments?

I've had bloods done and hubby's SA was fine.

Hi cookie dough . I haven't actually been referred yet, seeing dr on the 11th to do so. I would go back and chase up whether Yr gp actually got round to referring you. October is enough time for you to have got an acknowledgement letter at least.
My gp was the same and dismissed the idea of scarring from c section. But going by experiences of ladies on here it can quite clearly cause problems. I think some gps are just not helpful unfortunately and want to save money. Good luck and hope you get your app with gyno soon.

i had my appointment and consultant said that she found the c section scar had continued to grow and the adhesions were pinning my uterus right back, if she had not removed this i assume it would have just gotten worse. i also have a line of cysts on my c section scar caused by endometrial lining being caught in the incision when the stitch you up - effectively giving me endometriosis on my scar. the endo had then grown down my uterus - she also removed all of that.

i did not have any of these problems before having my son by c section.

she said my FSH level is slightly higher than is should be and often endo can do this as your ovaries are working harder.

she also said i have a luteal phase defect - hormones just totally out of whack - probably from that endo too.

so its all been removed and i am now on progesterone pessaries this month and then clomid after that for a few months to try to try and rectify the spotting Luteal phase defect.

on a positive note if any of you do have just scar adhesions pining things back in the way i did she did say that would not cause infertility it would just cause pain (i didnt have any pain) it was more the endo that came from the scar that would likely have cause me infertility issues

hope that helps someone.

i was lucky as we have medical insurance through work but even so if you do think the c section scar is causing issues i would go back to your GP and demand a referal to a gynea.
