I think all kids go through shitty phases, some a lot worse than others tho. it is upsetting tho to see wee ones get hurt. in the situation you mentioned, im sure the little boy didn't think 'oh im going to hit her face off the rad', he just got rough and it happened, tho it must have been awful to see. we were over at a friends yesterday and her little boy was in an awful mood and kept pushing/pulling my girl off his toys, it happens. ive seen my toddler hit other kids in the face, etc. tho she isn't one to start things these days, she will hit back tho if shes overtired and heavily provoked ;) she has gone through awful phase of biting/hitting, and we ended up leaving places early. that would be tough though if she was in daycare and I wasn't there to intervene.

edit to add: also ive found im much more relaxed about it now that I have a rambunctious toddler! I remember being absolutely horrified at softplay, etc when she was a baby at how violent and un-minded the toddlers were, lol.

I'm sure a lot depends on each kid (temperament and environment). My LO will push- but she is so gentle about it- although I still remind her not to. Even when she is OTT and has "hit" me- it's more like a light smack on my leg or something very gentle. But, because it's done out of anger, I still remind her it's never Ok to hit or push etc... it's a rarity she does. But kids do act out when they can't fully express themselves emotionally. And very common to try to grab toys or hold on when another kid is trying to grab it.

How did the teacher handle it? If they didn't step in or make the boundaries clear, that is where I'd be concerned. Obviously we can't wrap our kids in a bubble when we send them out into the world (would be nice sometimes though! ha!). But HOW the teachers and staff handle those situations would be my biggest concern. If something happened to my LO- I'd want to know how it was handled and be informed right away etc...

:hugs:
