This is my first time in this section as I just found out about 2 weeks ago that I have diabetes, went into the hospital on a random visit cause I was feeling week only to find out my blood sugar was 497!!!! Normal is between 70 and 120 so mine was really high, I have to take insulin 4 times a day. I just wanted to be able to talk with other mommies about it and see how everyone is doing. Looking forward to talking with you.

Hey Tigger....

Found out today that I have diabetes too -- so not sure what to expect! Sad that this increases my and baby's risk for diabetes in the future though... and... sugar was the only vice left!!!

Its really not that bad! :hugs:

I was a gestational diabetic too, although I never had to take insulin. It took a bit having to alter my eating habits but it worked out in the end as Claire was only 7lbs, 9oz!

Anything you want to know, just ask. I'll do my best to remember, it seems like forever ago now. I had to test my blood sugars 4 times a day. Had to record my fasting blood sugars so before breakfast, an hour after breakfast, an hour after lunch and then an hour after dinner. :)

I found out Monday that I have gestational diabetes. Baby is weighing 6lb 13 already which is scary. Have been doing what Tiff said in regards to testing my bloods and they have improved alot since I cut down on my sugar intake. I'm just a bit concerned about what this now means about delivering the baby and whether I'll have to have her early or not x

dont be scared about what they say lo weighs hun - i was told Lana was 8lb7oz at 37 weeks and she was born at 38+4 7lb4oz lol

i had to monitor my levels and was able to control my GD with diet, Lana suffered no ill effects whatsover and tbh all i got out of it was sore fingers (from sugar tests) extra scans and an early (ish) induction x

I just found out today I have it:nope:before the GTT my level was 4.8 but after is was 8.6, over the threshold of 7.8:cry: got to go to the hospital tomorrow to discuss whats next....what should I be eating?

I've just cut down on my sugar intake (ie. obvious sugar such as sweets, cakes, chocs etc), and things like white bread and carbohydrates as they have hidden sugar. Imagine the one time it is excused to fill your face you can't lol! x

I don't have gestational diabetes, I was already diagnosed type 2 before getting pregnant. I have to take my blood sugars 7 times a day, but so far have managed to control it well enough that I don't need insulin. My diabetologist has said I'll likely need insulin before the pregnancy is over, but apart from that the only extra care I'm getting is four weekly growth scans from 20 weeks and an induction at 38 weeks. It seems a lot more scary than it really is :)

I had it with my first pregnancy. Ive got my glucose test on friday but I know its going to be postive again.

Last time I had to go into hospital for 2 days to go for lab tests after each meal. I really hope they have moved past that, its not at all practical with a toddler!:dohh:
