Just wondering if anyone knows if it's ok to use calpol with a lactose intolerance?

DD2 had her first set of immunisations yesterday and she's got a fever like I was told she would get so they advised calpol straight after the jabs which she got and then 6 hours later, which she got.

Last night she was so unsettled and the screaming fit we had reminded me of the days before we were given prescription milk (nutramigen) and aside from the jabs the only other thing that was different yesterday was the calpol so it's got me wondering if it's actually ok for lactose intolerance sufferers?

I haven't given her any more and I'm going to phone the pharmacy later on to confirm but she's burning up and I don't want to give her more just incase

My calpol only contains paracetamol and a sugar substitute called maltitol (and some E numbers). I would strongly assume she is upset because of the jabs. The men b one is quite nasty. If she's burning up (if it was me) I'd defo go ahead and give the calpol. Hope she's feeling better soon

The one I have has sorbitol in which I've read can cause discomfort and reactions in lactose intolerance sufferers so I'm at a rock and a hard place because nowhere opens until 9 for me to check.

I expected a reaction to the jabs but this episode was so scarily similar to what we used to have before the intolerance was spotted which is why I'm questioning the calpol because if it is going to cause a reaction the fever is the lesser of two evils :nope:

My wee one is on nutramigen too. Has you wee one saw a dietician? I have spoke to two CMPA mums who were just given nutramigen without proper testing (this happened to me too) but you really need to push to see a dietician. The reason being there is a higher chance your LO has other allergies, plus the dietician will work out a programme for reintroducing dairy in the future as they can grow out it.

My wee one is pretty severe in her reaction to cows milk but Calpol is fine for her. She was hugely unsettled after her jags though, thrashing around like when she was in pain.

It is quite important that you do give the Calpol as the high temperature can dehydrate them and cause swelling in the brain (I think they said swelling but looking back that doesn't make sense actually)

Nope we saw no one. We were literally just given a prescription and sent on our way.

We haven't had our 6 week check yet, we have that on the 18th so I'll mention the referral to a dietician, I know 2 people who's LO's are on it and they both saw a dietician before it was prescribed. The milk has made such a difference but I did say to my DH I still don't feel like I know what the problem is

I've spoke to 3 different pharmacists and they've all said calpol is fine so she's just had a dose and fingers crossed she can sleep for a bit, she was up all night very unsettled and miserable the poor love :(

Poor wee soul. We were the same, they just gave us it and dismissed it but they actually told us not to worry about weaning and just give her cows milk in food, which is completely wrong! She has been sporadically unsettled since then and seems to react to random foods and I feel so out of my depth.

Apparently you need to be quite forceful. I had to tell my gp that I wanted nutramigen as they fobbed it off as colic, reflux and pretty much everything else.

Poor baba, I'd give the calpol though regardless as the temperature from the MenB jabs can get high pretty quickly.

Sorry Hun I probably spoke without knowing enough about it. My ds2 had febrile seizures so I'm always a bit wary of fevers x
