OK here we go. This is what I have down so far. Its one side of A4 so nice n easy for them to read. I know things change so there are a lot of "i would likes" and "if possibles" but can any one see anything glaringly obvious that I have missed?

General
• NO VISITORS ON DELIVERY SUITE.
• Students are welcome providing they participate in my care and conversation.
• My birthing partner is to be my husband, Paul.
• Paul is to remain with me during labour and as long as possible after the birth.
Early Labour/Latent stage
• I wish to remain at home as long as possible prior to admission to the labour ward.
• I wish to keep mobile.
• I wish to use a birthing ball and TENS machine for pain relief.
1st stage
• If a birthing pool is available, I would like to use it for pain relief.
• I am aware of the pain relief options available to me and would ask that these are not offered to me. Should I require pain relief I will ask for it.
• I wish to remain mobile if possible.
• We will supply music CDs which we wish to listen to.
• Intermittent fetal monitoring unless continuous monitoring is required. If continuous monitoring is required I would like to be given a full explanation of the reason.
• I would like to be encouraged to empty my bladder frequently in a bid to avoid the need for catheterisation.
2nd stage
• If possible, I would like to give birth in the birthing pool.
• I would like to decide on my position for birth at the time as I am unsure how I will feel.
• Baby to be passed to me immediately after birth for skin to skin contact.
• Paul to cut umbilical cord.
3rd Stage
• I would like an actively managed third stage to deliver the placenta.
After delivery
• NO VISITORS ON DELIVERY SUITE.
• If any family members call, they are not to be given any information.
• Paul to dress baby in first nappy and clothes – help maybe required from midwife/student.
• Baby to receive vitamin K via IM injection.
Unforeseeable events
• Episiotomy – only if the need arises and our baby is at risk.
• Caesarean section – Again only if the need arises and either myself or our baby are at risk.
o Should this happen, I wish paul to remain with me in theatre with me at all times.
o Baby should be passed to Paul as soon as possible after birth.
o Paul should not be asked to leave theatre with our baby until I am ready to leave.
• Assisted delivery – only if the need arises and our baby is at risk.

I just noticed that you've put No visitors twice and that you want to use birthing pool twice. One thing that is missing (unless i missed it) is assisted delivery of the placenta??

I saw assisted delivery of baby, but they can give you an oxytocin injection once baby is born to help uterus contract and you pass placenta quicker and easier xx

Thanks hun, 3rd stage is in there - i made sure of that and as for the no visitors things - im trying to make a point :winkwink: i dont want my parents any where near me in delivery suite before or after birth.

Thought that was the case, but thought i'd point it just incase it wasn't.

Looks good to me then.

My birth plan is out the window now as I wanted relaxed birth pool at the unit, gas and air and pethidine if needed, try and avoid epidural.

Now however baby is 8 days late, sweep booked for monday, induction fri which means no birth pool, and probably epidural :(

You do know huni even if u have c section u can still have skin to skin pretty much straight away.
My advice is to try get rid of the lil things as MW are busy people and to sit there read all that and remember it will be hard work.
Things like the music etc.
Just make sure paul knows it all and he can make sure these things happen.
I really hope ur birth plan goes to plan.
I didnt do one with mine glad i didnt coz its not how i expected it to be PMSL

sorry to hear that hun - get hubby to get a bit jiggy with you tonight after a nice hot curry and pinapple fritters for pudding - see if you can get that baby moving!

also come round and wash my bathroom, utility and kitchen floors. thats supposed to be good for getting things started and a nice long walk!

I think theres a lot of niggly bits in there that you dont need and MWs will probs just not bother listning too.. As for your hubby been with you in theatre in the off chance of a c section this may not be possible if you are to be put to sleep... it depends on the situation so my advice would be dont get too set on your birth plan as most of the time they go out the window... good look anyways :)

looks good to me hun!! very specific and to the point im stealing pointers now !!!
