My docs have agreed to prescribe me progesterone but I'm unsure as to when to start taking it, or when to stop or anything else I might need to know? I posted in ttc but go no response what so ever? So thought I'd try here. Thank you in advance xx

Your doctor should advice you, I know some starts after ovulation by few days but my doctor advised me to start it after I get the BFP and carry on for 3 months.

Well there's my problem, my specialist has asked my doctor to prescribe it so my gp is doin it but is not happy about it at all so being no help, and my specialist ha discharged me now as he has refered me to dr shehatas clinic which I am waiting for the appointment for. But I am due to ovulate in the ne t few days and I want to start taking it a the best possible time.
Thank you for your help though xx

I had progesterone with my embryo transfer. I had it through the tww and continued on until my blood test showed my body was supporting the pregnancy on it's own at 6weeks but some woman continue to take it till the end of the first tri then ween off.. I have just been put back on it due to funneling and shortening cervix as it's been proven to help and will find out at my scan tomorrow if it has.. progesterone won't hurt you.

If you're LP is not too short, then starting from BFP is fine. That's what I did and just stopped it this week. If you keep having chemicals, then you may need it from O.

I was told to start it after ovulation (well my Dr. actually told me I could start it a few days before, but I didn't do because I was afraid it would cause problems with O). I took mine until either AF started or until 12 weeks :)

Hi everyone hope you don't mind me posting here.
I was reading about progesterone in this forum because I have been through the same myself. Two MC, one at 9wk, second at 6wk, then BFP with my son but started bleeding and was luckily given progesterone pessaries and he was born healthy 9 mths later.
I am a journalist and am now writing an article on progesterone in early pregnancy after loss and was wondering if anyone here would be interested in sharing their story?
The article will question whether progesterone ought to be much more widely available, talked about with GPs and easily given to women who have suffered MCs.
If you are interested in taking part, please do PM me or reply to this thread.
With best wishes,
J.

My FS puts all recurrent MC patients on it but I think they have much more flexibility here than in the UK.

So does my RE. Even though all my tests came back normal they still put me on it. Even my regular OBGYN was going to put me on it but I switched to an RE for more testing. I guess I don't know 100% if it is the reason why I have been able to hold onto this pregnancy but I'm greatful My doctors suggested it.

Thanks for all your replays ladies,
I think I will take it after ovulation, if I ever ovulate this cycle!
It's getting very late for me and no sign whatsoever! Also I wanted to ask what type of progesterone u have? I heard there is oral, injections and pessaries, is this right? Which is best! Are they all the same? Sorry it's just my first experience of any of this and I want to find out as much as I can.
I think my docs are going to give me cyclogest pessaries??? I'm not really sure yet though should find out tomorrow.
Thanks again xx

He gave me prometrium which was supposed to be oral, but he had me insert them. He wanted to give me crinone which is a gel made for insertion, but insurance refused to cover it and it was like $800/month!

I was on vaginal suppositories twice a day. I know that they are better than pills but not sure about the injections.

I'm really sorry for all the questions, but what dose? How many mg did u use? My doctors don't know what strength to give me ? Can u believe that? Don't feel like I stand a chance if my doctors do t evn know! X

I believe mine were 200mg each and I inserted one in the morning and one before bed. That is strange that the doctors don't know. Can't they call and consult with one that does? I really hope everything works out for you!

I took prometrium. Mine were 200mg pills but I took them once a day orally during my LP, then if I got a BFP I took them twice a day. I know many other women take the same pills vaginally though.

Mine were 100g and were taken viginally 2 of them 3 times a day. They are messy but they do the job.

Thanks everyone, well my docs have prescribed me 400mg cyclogest twice a day so I hope that will be what I need to make my next little bean so very sticky! All I can do now is hope! Xx

You should go to the PARL thread-Pregnant after recurrent losses , in the pregnancy after loss section. Lots of us have used progesterone with success, I'm not one of the successes though. I know some on their believe progesterone was the answer. Or there is the MARL thread, Mothers after recurrent losses. You will need to search for that thread, its in a discussion area somewhere on the boards xx

Funny hope I pointed the PARL ladies in her direction (she has a thread in the press section).

I had a real nightmare getting progesterone. I had seven first tri miscarriages and then finally got progesterone, that was with Riley Rae and it helped substain my pregnancy but she was stillborn at 24+3 (unrelated to progesterone) and since then I have had five more miscarriages with my healthcare providers refusing me progesterone but luckily I now have one who has put it as part of my care plan so fingers crossed it helps x
