Can anyone explain the life cycle of a sperm?

My OH is having a hard time understanding why a sperm takes 3 months in total to be produced.

I've googled, but can't find anything to explain 'the life cycle of a sperm' to him, so I'm a bit confused now too!

Can anyone explain how it works to me, or recommend a website explaining how sperm is produced?
