hello all,
firstly thank you for reading.. this is my first post in quite a long time.
im looking for a bit of insight into the world of PCOS if possible..

ive been going to my doctors for quite some time now complaining but getting nothing done, finally a couple of months ago i got the ball rolling, but feel like im getting nowhere.

i came off depo in december 2009 and have had irregular periods since, sometimes i can go say around 18 days between periods, sometimes i can go 6-7 weeks. they are so unpretictable. my gp kept trying to send me for cd21 blood tests, which were always inconclusive because cd21 wasnt necessarily the date they needed because of my irregular cycles.
so i FINALLY got send for an ultrasound scan and blood tests to test for PCOS.
i got these back, yesterday. i have no visible cysts on my ovaries, and my doctor says the blood tests are 'normal' so what he is going to do is refer me to gynaecology and i just have to wait now for an appointment...
what does this mean? have i not got PCOS? will i not know til i get my appointment? he was so unhelpful i felt he didnt want me there! i feel ive learnt nothing!

i have, i think, quite a few of the symtpoms of PCOS. i get really bad acne, especially around my chin, i have excess unwanted hair (face, nipples, tummy) my skin is really oily, and the obvious irregular periods.. i really didnt think all of this could just be a coincidence?

has anyone else been in my situation? did you have clear results and still have PCOS, if not what was it? what do i expect from gynaecology?
i just want answers now :(

I am sorry to hear about your situation. I was diagnosed with PCOS in May. I was on the pill for years and years and when I went off of it in June of 2011 I never got my period. My doctor sent me for bloodwork in November and it came back normal. When I saw an OB-GYN in March she sent me for more blood tests and an ultrasound. My bloodwork came back with elevated androgen hormones. (I don't know why it was normal the first time and not several months later.) The ultrasound showed that I did have visible cysts on one of my ovaries and not the other. After looking at that my OB-GYN diagnosed me with PCOS. She put me on Clomid and after 2 months on it I became pregnant. (I am now 6 weeks pregnant.) My OB said that she would put me on Clomid whether or not I had PCOS because of the irregularity of my periods. You can read more details of my situation on my blog if you are interested - asformeandmyhouseforever dot blogspot dot ca (can't post direct link because of spam filter).

I think that it would be reasonable to assume that you do have PCOS, but that either way your doctor will put you on Clomid to make you ovulate so that you can have the change to get pregnant.

I hope that helps. I know the waiting is killer, but I am glad that you are going to see a different doctor because you should never feel that your doctor is unhelpful.

The problem with PCOS is they still don't know a lot about it. It manifests differently in each person. A lot of doctors are just too afraid to make an official diagnosis. I hope you gyno can give you straight answers. I would lean toward you having pcos. Good luck. I was diagnosed 4 years ago.

thank you! i find it confusing also xx

I was JUST like you! I have Crazy periods, unwanted hair in horrid places, and acne on my chin. Also I am overweight. There is hope! My bloods are normal, I have no cysts, but I was still dx with pcos due to other symptoms. Here is my success story!

I took Clomid last year about this time. 50 mg and did not O. Had other things going on in life so dh and I just NTNP until this July. July my gyn started me on 100mg. I should add that I'm very overweight, and began the Atkins diet (recommended to me by gyn because I have insulin resistant pcos) on 4/25/12. I lost 60 lbs! Roughly 20% of my body weight from 4/25 to 8/25. K so I did O on 100 mg. dr is convinced it was because of weight loss, which I agree. I also feel a lot better. The first round of Clomid this time around was awful. Bad hot flashes. And CRAMPS,! . I mean like, make me feel like my ovaries and uterus were being ripped out cramps a full week before AF arrived. I was not monitored. No follicle sonos, no 21 day progesterone, nothing. So onto round two. Dr says "have intercourse in the morning, his sperm are cooler in the morning which makes for better swimmers". So, we did. We bd a total of 7 times this cycle. 1 the day before O in the am, and 1 the day of O in the am. I believe I O'd cd 18 from bbt and opks. Some ppl don't like opks, but I love them. I knew I was pregnant this cycle about 5 dpo because I had no cramps, unlike last month which were horrible. So I poas, nothing, then a crazy faulty line shows up after time..... Was weird. Anyhow, I got my BFP on a digi 8dpo! So I would say what really did it was SMEP and not overdoing the bd and Definitely BD IN THE MORNING! Good luck ladies!!!! I'll keep coming to this thread we need more bfps! Btw dh and I had been ttc/ntnp for 4 years.

Good luck!

Congratz on your amazing weightloss and you BFP!

I would recommend waiting to stress out until your next appointment. As someone already pointed out, PCOS manifests differently in all of us. No one really gave any thought to the idea of anyone having infertility in my family, then I was diagnosed with PCOS (amongst other things) about 5 years ago. Wait for your appointment before symptom spotting yourself to death, though. It is very possible to still conceive with the condition, but it takes time, determination, patience, and faith. The onslaught of drugs await you and believe me, they suck. :/
