Can cysts affect ovulation?

My last cycle, I took 100mg of Clomid. I did not get a BFP, and before starting my next cycle of Clomid, my scan showed a large (6.5-7cm, I think) cyst and I was told to not take Clomid this cycle.

My question - can a large cyst like that affect ovulation? Usually by this point in my cycle I would've gotten a positive OPK, but I haven't gotten one yet.

Has anyone had experience with this? I'd appreciate any thoughts! I've done injections and numerous rounds of Clomid, but have never had this experience

Hi lizzy, my first post on LTTC boards! I'm on clomid round 5 & on round 1 I had follicle tracking & they found a large cyst on my left ovary. I knew something was up as around ovulation time I always had pain there. The clomid can't have caused it as it was too big & it was first cycle, but I am worried the clomid has either made it bigger or caused more cysts. My FS insists it won't stop me ovulating but I'm not convinced, why would I have stabbing pains around ovulation there? I've just spotted someone I recognise from when I first joined Bnb has got her BFP after almost 3 years, she had a cyst removed during a lap last month & got preggo straight away. Makes you wonder... Thanks for your reply! I think mine is definitely from Clomid as I've been monitored a ton...and had a laparoscopy 9ish weeks ago and had no cysts at that time. Anyway, talked to the RE's office today and they said to wait a while because the cyst may be delaying ovulation.

Best wishes to you! I'd be a little curious if you definitely have a cyst and they continue to have you on Clomid as Clomid I think can feed the cyst. That's why I have to take a break this cycle...give the cyst time to go away

Cysts have delayed my O for months on end! They are a pain to say the least.

Thank you lizzy, yes I know you would think they'd want to monitor me a bit more closely wouldn't you? I think clomid causes cysts in only a small percentage of women though . Ah well, only 2 months to go before I'm back there! Wishing you lots of luck too hun x

Well I am thinking iui, with some stonger meds. The clomid didnt help me to O but only twice. Im not really sure yet, but ready to find out whats next!

I wish I knew for certain if I've ovulated every cycle, but never mind. Just got to assume & see what the FS says if the 5th & 6th rounds don't work, I'm thinking IUI too. Wishing you lots of luck x
