Can I Choose an Elective Second C-Section

I've just found out I'm pregnant with no2, currently 6 weeks. I had an elective c-section with my first due to her being breech.

I was wondering whether I will be able to ask for an elective c-section with my second? I know this is probably really silly but I am petrified of things going wrong if I were to have a VBAC, and I would rather know for sure that everything is going to be fine form the start, is this something I can bring up with my midwife at my booking appt or will she try to persuade me to go for a VBAC?

I had a natural birth with my first and a c section (for breech) with my second. When the surgeon came to sign me out of hospital after the section her last words were "if everything goes smoothly with your next, it'll be a vaginal birth, no requirement for section".. So I guess from that response they wouldn't allow another section if pregnancy was low risk? I don't plan on having any more so it's by the way for me. Hope you have a smooth pregnancy x

I was told by my surgeon that he recommended another Csection if i have more kids

C section is not a guarantee all will go ok. If not needed it is an increased risk. Different reasons the c-section was need can also influence the Dr. recommending you have a VBAC or another c-section. Breech 1st time does not mean next will be breech, but having a real small pelvis or something physically wrong with body may make them say all should be c-section.

It is your choice whether to have vbac or elective cs this time. They will steer you towards vbac, but the final decision is yours xx

^^WSS ill be electing the next time, at 39 weeks, my lo was frank breech.

My hospital is pro-vbac, so I think it totally depends on the hospital but ultimately the decision is yours. I will be going for a VBAC if possible x

I'm in the UK and had a EMCS with my DS, I have been told I can try VBAC or elective section this time, I can change my mind at any time. Usual procedure for a planned section at my hospital is at 39 weeks x

Yes, there's new NHS legislation that they have to give u an elective if you want it, although depending on area you might need to fight quite hard. Have a really good think though, I was set on an elective because my 1st emergency section was great, but the 2nd has been a nightmare! Just be careful, like all ops it can go better than normal, or much much worse! (Right now I'd do just about anything to go back and not have one the 2nd time!)
