Can I request for an early scan after a missed miscarriage?

Hi ladies.

My MMC was 2 years ago and had been trying to get pregnant since last year.

All I am worried that it will happen again this time around but I know I am 5 weeks 2 days and it's still very early. And still get nausea most of time! :-( I do get paranoid about what if it will happen again as it will be my last one if everything is ok.

Can I ask for an early scan from midwife which I will be seeing on 25th feb at 7 wks and 4 days. But my loss was around 8/9weeks :-(.

Can I ring EPAU for advices or have to wait til I see midwife?

Many thanks ladies for reading. Xxx

I had a mc in may and got preg again in July. I went for a early scan at 5+6 its still so small that you can barely see anything. The tech couldn't tell me if it was a viable preg or not so I freaked. My suggestion is to wait till your appointment I wish I had. There's nothing you really can do to prevent a mc. Mine was at 6+4. When I went for the 8week scan I knew they wouldn't find a heart beat since they couldn't really see anything 2 weeks prior but I'm 8 months preg now.

Hi darling :)

I'm in your situation exactly! I had a MMC in late 2010 detected at 12+1. Baby was 8+4. In that pregnancy I had an early scan in the 7th week during bleeding, saw heart beat all looked great but still miscarried a week later. I personally don't feel an early scan earlier than your previous loss gestation will put your mind at ease. But I hope it will! It's a horrible horrible wait but me seeing my angel on the scan and then losing it with no warning, made it harder for me.

This time I am extremely tempted to have a scan around 8 weeks but anything could still happen. My next scan is at 10 weeks which thank goodness is 2 weeks shorter than the usual 12 week dating scan but it's past my 2 previous loss gestations so I know I'll be able to relax then if all is well.

I know the wait is horrible but book a scan around 9 weeks (if midwife doesnt send you for one) when you know you have got past your previous loss stage.

I had an early private scan for reassurance everything was in the right place last week which it was but miscarriage wise it eased my mind for all of a day.

I had a MMC and a MC possibly due to medical reasons and they haven't offered me early scans :'(

We will get our rainbows this time :hugs:

I disagree with the other ladies actually. I would definitely phone the epu for an early scan.

I am 4+4 ish today - slightly irregular so could be between 4+2 and 5 weeks. I have had three losses - an ectopic at 5+2, a miscarriage at 6 and a half weeks and a miscarriage at 8 and a half weeks.

After my first loss (at 6 and a half weeks) I was told I would have an early scan. I was scanned in my second pregnancy weekly between week 4 and 7 until we saw heartbeat at 7 weeks. They moved me to fortnightly scans after that, at my 9 week scan they discovered the heartbeat had stopped a few days previous.
With my third pregnancy, I wa booked in for an early scan at 7w. Never made it that far but I was scanned at 5+2 to check for ectopic, which it was.

This time around I'm being scanned between 5&6 weeks (so really soon!) and then again at 7. Don't know what the protocol will be after that (hopefully it will continue to be weekly!)

Even just the memory of having one good scan is worth it, plus it did reassure me!
