I know it sounds stupid but every weekend (or whenever there's a football game on, 3 times this week!) me and my OH go to parties/pubs etc with all the lads and it is SO loud! There is music, shouting, screaming and gas horns and everything!

It sounds silly but i know the baby can hear now even though its muffled and i worry that it will get really startled or something! I don't want to frighten it to death! I try and tell them but they obviously don't listen! Last night was a 'big' one and i couldnt feel the baby move all night so i was panicking! im sure i can feel it moving now so i think its ok but i just worry myself!

am i being stupid or should i just not go anymore?! lol!

its not stupid but if anything babies like noise and they move around alot because they are just responding to it after baby is born it will recognise some of the noises like the hoover and music and it relaxes them when my daughter was born id have music on loud and be hoovering around the moses basket and she would be sound asleep lol x

My husband stops me from listening to semi-loud music in the car. He says the base is the worst for the baby. Apparently it can cause brain damage (or so he said.) Either that or hubby doesn't like my music :P I'd be curious to see what others think.

I didn't think it was a problem - baby is well protected and insulated in there - it can hear but I didn't think it caused any issues - anyone else?

Bass from a stereo in a car will NOT cause brain damage. Your OH is messing with you. There is no logic behind that statement!

Baby is well insulated by our bodies. Outside sound has to travel through our outside layer of skin, layers of fat, bone, uterus, and then amniotic fluid to get to baby. Baby cannot distinctly make out any clear sounds. It all sounds very muffled and far away.

I wouldn't recommend putting an air horn to your belly and setting it off, but any other outside noise is perfectly fine. No worries!

My wife is asleep, I've hijacked her account... MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

All that's been proven is that sound travels better through liquid than it does through the air, there has been no evidence to show that music can improve brain growth but that children can react to sound they hear whilst in the womb. It is likely a child can hear us talking as cleary as we can hear each other so naturaly when music and noises are so loud that it makes you uncomfortable it's just as loud for baby. The difference is that baby is tiny and still growing, I don't know whether it causes brain damage, but if any of you have ever gone to a party and stood next to a super loud speaker, imagine all that bass and volume on such a delicate thing... My wife has said before that loud noises startle the baby even if I'm coughing or clapping in the next room, imagine a constant 'boom boom'.

the noise isnt just travelling through liquid though its also travelling through tissue fat and muscle

With my son and with this baby I have a very loud system in our expedition. (2 12in speakers and a 1000 watt amp) and I have it basically massaging me in the front seat. My son is so used to it that he can only fall asleep in the car with it on (again it's like a massage) so I doubt it will hurt the baby. Like PP said, don't grab a blow horn and put it straight to your belly but other than that I'm sure everything will be fine.

My first 2 pregnancies i was going to pubs and night clubs all the time, listened to heavy metal lol and the only reaction from them was more movement.

I have pregnancy apps on my phone that tell me about week to week information. Last week, which was week 23 for me, one said, "The sound emanating from most music halls is unlikely to be harmful. However, loud and prolonged sounds above 100 decibels, like that of a motorcycle engine, or extremely loud noises above 150 decibels, such as a jet engine, have the potential to cause hearing problems in the developing fetus."My last pregnancy I went to the club to hang out with friends and dance and my daughter is just fine. I'm sure your LO is just fine.

I'm about to go sit and play in an orchestra all day today! I know that that can get up to quite a few decibels- especially if you're sat in front of the horn section! ;) baby has been exposed to quite a few wedding ceilidhs too......

I've been to 2 gigs since being pregnant, one last night. I felt my first movements at the first one too! I can imagine that it's probably not the best to be exposed to loud music/noise all of the time, but one offs I can't imagine hurt.

Xx

I recommend watching this video. It distorts the sound so we hear it as baby is hearing it. Speech is indeed NOT clear, just muffled. It is a very informative and fascinating video. :)

I noticed you're in Notts, don't suppose it was Plan B was it?!

I went to this last night and was wondering myself whether the loudness of it was a good idea, but he's been wriggling away like mad today so I'm sure he's absoulutely fine.

xx

He was bloody fantastic! Think I'm a little bit in love with him too, and he wouldn't normally be my type!

We stood off to the side a bit as I was worried about getting knocked about too much. Would've loved to have been near the front though, seen him before and stood closer then and it was great. Hubby and sis in law went further in for a bit though, and said it was absolutely mad in the 'mosh pit' so glad I didn't.

ok here's a noise question for you, my dad is an avid gun collector and it's a tradition that everyyear we go to see him we all go out shooting! Well by the time I go see him I will be about 23 weeks pregnant, will gun fire affect the baby. We don't shoot for any more then an hour and its not constant fire, will my baby be negativly impacted?

I was digging my feet in the floor when he sang pieces and kept shouting its a mosh pit lol, when we moved I enjoyed it so much more! Did you get covered in booze? X
