Can someone help with moving out?

I am going to be privately renting and wondering how it works, so i find somewhere i want to rent ask to claim housing benefits as i am not currently working then how long does it take before you get first housing benifit payment iv heard it can take months so by time u recieve it wouldnt of someone else taken the place you wanted to rent already? any help

You can't get the money until you've moved in. Depending on your area it can be quick (like mine) all depends on how busy your council are. You can apply for it to begin with but you need to have secured the place as yours first to confirm the address (they talk to your letting agent) so you would need to somehow find the money for the deposit/first months rent. Your hb is backdated to the day that you put the claim in though.
