I heard best to sleep on sides but sometimes wake up on back, anyone else?

I don't think it would harm you if you're just doing it in your sleep.

I can't physically stay on my back for very long. He feels too heavy inside me :0(

You not supposed to lie flat on your back, if I lie on my back I always prop myself up. But I don't lie on back for long more on my sides x

I can't even lie on my back any more. There's so much pressure on my spine and organs. I also get some weird pains in my hips.

I wake up on my back too... I try lying on my left side but get soooo uncomfy after a while, baby is transverse so I cant lie on right side cause I can feel her little head get squashed,,, have not been sleeping very much this last week :(

I always end up on my back no matter how many pillows i put down or how i position them. I always make sure I start on my left side then if I wake up during the night I put myself back on left. That's the best I can do :haha:

I wouldn't worry about it I'm sure if it was doing any harm your body would stop you doing it. I know plenty of people who didn't know about the no lying on your back thing and they all have perfectly healthy kids.

My midwife said there is absolutely no concern unless you feel dizzy or lightheaded as this means your uterus & baby are blocking some circulation.

So I wouldn't worry at all, if you're comfortable and (more importantly!) you're sleeping...enjoy it !

I really think it's fine, our bodies are very clever at sending signals to change position when were asleep. Also have never once been taken to one side by MW and told I MUST lie on my left side or sonething dreadful will happen it's only something I've ever heard of on here!

I wake up on my back several times a night. I fall asleep on my side but its just not comfy.

I'm a belly sleeper - I miss it :(

i quite often wake up on my back or actually go to sleep on my back. The midwife said its fine and that my body will tell me if its not good. She said as long as i feel ok then not to worry but if i feel faint or dizzy then to move but i nevcer have.

The only way I can comfortably sleep at all is in a recliner now, so I'm in a semi upright position anyway. It doesn't seem to matter which side I try, how pillows are arranged around me, supporting what... I always wake up with an achy back.

I'm more comfy on my side anyway but I do wake up on my back occasionally. Like last night. I woke up from a nightmare and found myself on my back. Then baby didn't move all morning and I was afraid I did something.

She's moving like normal now so no worries :)

I was told it's no big deal if you wake up on your back. Just roll over on your side again :)

At physio she said I could sleep on my belly if I get a single duvet, roll it into a sausage and then make it into a circle/donut shape and put my bump into the hole.

Have you tried that? Is it comfy?

I do it with my pregnancy pillow because the end curves round. But mostly for when DH gives me a back massage, so it's ok for my bump but uncomfortable because I'm on the floor.
I imagine it would be better to do it in bed whilst sleeping.

I never sleep on my tummy when not pregnant, but really feel like it lately lol! That sounds comfy!!

I wake up on my back often during the night, but I always have a terrible ache and usually have lost feeling in my tailbone. I can't wait to sleep on my tummy again.... sigh lol
