My LO is combi feed, she is 7 weeks old and she feeds till she is sick! can you over feed on formula? i know you cant with BM but am worried she is comfort eating?! is that possible? i cant not feed her though? hmmm never had this with my boy!

It depends on what you're asking? If you mean can a baby take more than they have room for, then the answer is "Yes", whether it's breastmilk or formula. If you're asking will they take more than they need and hang onto it/gain weight from it, then the answer is no. This is one of those myths which gets repeated ad nauseum (if you'll forgive the pun). If a baby takes too much, as you've seen, they'll bring back up what their tummy can't handle. If she's taking too much from the bottle it could be because she's comfort sucking because she's used to doing it at the breast? But some spit-up is normal anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much. Obviously check with your HV or GP if you are concerned though :hugs:

You can't actually over-feed them as they will throw up what they don't need.

Could she possibly have reflux? :flower:

Thanks ladies :flower: Im worried that she is comfort eating:( iv got a toddler too so am busy, feel like she does not get the same attention he did, when he was her age:( so if she is taking more than she needs, then its stretching her tummy then? Not sure if i know what reflux actually is? off to google :haha: x

I'd see a doctor? They will be able to see if it is reflux or comfort eating :)

If it is reflux you can get Gaviscon, special milks.. Easy to control :)

thank you,she has a 6 week check up 2m so will ask x

" I no you cant with bm" Incorect. You can overfeed with bottled EBM." Ive been exclusively pumping for 5 months and i didnt know this till my daughter was about 3 months old. as she didnt have a pacifier till 7 weeks or so i thought she was hungry but she just loves to suck 24/7! yes they vomit what they dont need but its the frequency if there constantly eating you can overfeed. in my opinion im no baby dieticion.

Thank you,i gave her a dummy a couple of days ago and it has helped loads! x

They can drink more than they can take, but will usually throw the excess back up. The over feed issue comes more when babies are offered a new feed before they need it, which is surprisingly common when a bottle often seems first choice to help settle a crying baby, regardless of why they are crying xx

Hi Kitty :) how ya doing with 2? hardcore eh?! :haha: Hmmmm see im still convinced she comfort eats? it may just be my guilt though as i cant stop thinking im not giving her enough time, with having my little boy (he is full on :haha:)
she had her first injections the other day and i fed her just before leaving so knew she was full, when we came out she was still a bit upset so offered first my boob (still trying to combi feed) but no,then the dummy,no so offered her a bottle and she took it,before this i just tried to comfort her by holding and cuddling her as i know she should not be hungry but when you have exhausted all the obvious and have a very upset bub and the bottle works ,what do you do? x

I'd feed in that case lovely. It's what we did with Fin. He wanted food every 2-2.5 hrs. Meant he was a larger baby but now he's a perfectly normal sized toddler so I truly think he just took what he needed you know? He was never one to take a dummy etc and after exhausting everything else it came down to food and he agte loads. He did have reflux though and apparently they drink more because it soothes them. Does she puke a lot and have what may be thought to be colicky periods? Could be a sign of reflux and infant gaviscon might ease her and help her eat less... or she could just have a larger appetite which is fine... as adults we all have different appetites. lol.

Yeah, 2 under 2... it's fecking hectic right? I love the manic pace of our days though I have to say and it's not as hard as I was expecting... but then I was expecting hell haha. How's you and the babes? xxx

Thanks Kitty, she is sick alot!,sometimes an hour after her feed  and i mean (sometimes) lots! and she seems to have colicky periods! might try that gaviscon , will look whats in it  its a total shock as my little boy is the opposite and we used to worry whether he was getting enough! even now, life is to exciting to eat! bless him :haha:
Wow yes its hectic,i love it and to be fair my LO sttn!!! plus in the day! another difference to my boy,i finely know what a sleeping new born is! but i still find it v hard, more to the fact,my boy has bad tantrums! gets over tired and wont have a nap in the day now :nope: dinner time is hard as he is usually so over tired that he wont eat it and then i find bed time stressful as making sure LO is ok so i can go through our routine for my boys bed time with out her crying so not to upset my boy! hard juggling that one  my oh is at work then so he cant help, any way not moaning as i love them soooooooooo much just want them both to feel happy and loved,i guess thats what i find hard....
When was your little girl born? mine was 17th june,so far she is v different to my boy, even in looks! she is quite dark,my boy is very blonde! xxx
