Can you use a mooncup for postpartum bleeding?

Ok, I realise this might be a very stupid question, but I just have to ask. I know everything will be streched out down there as you've just given birth and the blood loss might be way too much for a cup, but I really hate pads. How soon after birth could you switch to using a cup again?

You shouldn't use one for your postpartum bleeding, just like you shouldn't use a tampon. Honestly, you will NOT want to. I hated pads and never, ever used them before I had my daughter. But now I actually prefer them because the moon cup/tampons are not as comfortable as they used to be. I didn't even get my period for about 5 months after birth and even then it was still a bit uncomfortable to use one. You may also need to go up a size in the moon cup (to the one for women who've given birth, if this is your first baby and you now use the smaller size). But really, once your lochia bleeding stops and you get your first real period, you can safely use a moon cup or tampons again, assuming everything is healed if you had a tear.

No, I don't think so. It wouldn't be great for the uterus healing and you have to be vigilent in watching for clots and such. Plus there is SO much bleeding.

You won't want to!!! The really padded maternity pads are the only thing I could sit on for a while!!! I really hated them too, but you just can't face anything going near there let alone IN there! Ouch!!!

No, pads only after birth.

Get a selection so you can choose the appropriate absorbency. I bought some proper maternity pads to start with. Also, many women find that the ultra-thin, dry weave top sheet pads irritate their stitches, so that's another reason I've gone for the nice thick maternity pads to start with. They're also longer than normal.

Luckily, I didn't bleed too badly after either of my previous children, but this time I have some spare maternity mats so I can lie on one in bed in case of any leakage.

Nothing is to be inserted inside your vagina for 6 weeks after you give birth. This gives your body time to heal and try and fix itself from all the stretching it did.

I wouldn't do it, because of the infection risk. I hate pads, too, but I wasn't too bothered by them postpartum. I think the pad technology has improved since I last used them.

I actually used Depends for the worst of it. It sounds backwards, but I felt more normal in them than wearing pads. Maybe because I didn't have that constant worry that they would shift.
