Can't figure out what's going on...

Hi folks,
I'm new to these forums. Wondering if anyone here has insight on this...

Some background: I'm 39, no pregnancies except for 1 ectopic a couple years ago. My cycle is very predictable, and is usually 28 days, ovulation on day 14, period lasts 4-5.

Here is what is going on:

My doctor ordered an HSG (to check for possible blockage) and an ultrasound to check for cysts. The HSG is supposed to be done on cycle day 10.

My cycle started on Sept. 21. I scheduled the tests for the 29th. But the period never stopped: on day 4 it seemed to start again and continued until October 6, just spotting. So no HSG.

On the 29th they did the ultrasound only and saw nothing unusual, other than a cyst I've had for awhile.

My doctor called and scheduled more tests and told me to take a pregnancy test just to be sure. I took an over the counter digital test on October 5. It showed pregnant. The test the same day in the Doctor's office showed negative, but the blood test showed a minimal positive.

To make things even more confusing, the only possible conception dates are Sept 24 or 26.

I have no idea what is going on. My sister is a nurse and has no idea what is going on. The doctor has no idea what is going on.

Could it be very late implantation? Can implantation even happen *after* a normal period???

Sorry for the confusion and wow that does seem strange. Have you taken another follow up pregnancy test since the 5th to see if it is darker?

Any chance of conception in August? I hate to even suggest (and if I could put this into really small letters I would)...but could it have been a possible mc? I REALLY REALLY hope that is not the case (having been through one myself).

Definitely not August. There were veeeeery low levels of HCG at first test (blood test, Dr. office) Like, "6". Even with an ectopic there were numbers in the triple digits. They suggested perhaps it was a very very early positive. Though I still can't figure out how the timing would pan out for that. Did another home test yesterday, four days later, another positive, so probably not mc?
I had more blood drawn this morning so we'll see. So weird. Thanks for the encouragement!

Very weird, but crazier things have happened. Hoping for a huge BFP for you!

So these are my theories.

1) you ovulated extremely early in your cycle (cd4) and happened to catch the egg. If conception happened on Sept 24, Oct 5 would be 11dpo and that would produce low number and faint positives. If you O'd cd 6 (sept 26) you would be 9dpo and again, possible to get faint positives. The doc urine test would be negative as they have low sensitivity. I question the validity of the digital as they are even less sensitive than a doctor's test.

2) you did conceive in august but you had a mc. Your cycle came normal so you may not have even been aware it happened. Because your period lasted longer than normal this could very well be. and the small amount of hcg in your system is giving you positive results. 4 weeks after I started bleeding for mine I still had a squinter on a frer.

It would be a rare occurance for you to ovulate so soon within your cycle. It's not unheard of. But to be totally honest I would be more inclined to go with the second option.

I am curious to see the outcome of all of this. My fingers are crossed it is a bfp for you.
