I wondered if anyone could tell me what sort of care you receive in a high risk pregnancy in the UK? Are there extra ultrasounds etc?

I've just had a managed miscarriage as my daughter had Trisomy 18 and had no chance of survival. I'm nervous about another pregnancy and how they will care for the baby.. I'm not sure I can go through all this again.

Hello, I lost my lo at Xmas to t13, I'm now 28 weeks pregnant. As soon as I got pregnant I phoned the screening midwives at my hospital. The consultant scanned me at 5w and 7w at 12 w I was referred to kings in London as they have a special unit for screening. Had 40min scan with 3 consultants. My consultant at my local hospital did my 18w scan. No abnormalities found, we decided to not do invasive tests as nothing was seen to warrent one, but i could of if i wanted. I was very scared until I passed the 20 week stage where I lost my lo.

My advice is push for consultant scan and don't except no for an answer. I was lucky to get offered all this but others I've read don't get it, so you really have to request I want this or that.
Good luck and sorry about you recent loss.

I'm sorry to hear you lost your last baby but am so pleased to hear they are looking after you so well now and without the need for invasive tests. I feel quite reassured.

I'm seeing the consultant in 6 weeks to discuss everything but right now it feels like such a long way off.

We knew we wanted to try again but not for a few months. It took 3 months for our pm and genetic test results to return, the waiting for information was a killer. It was definately helpful to get pregnant again but it soon turns to worry if something will go wrong, nerves of steel and lots of tears for the first one - even now I just want the first one back. I'm very excited to meet this new one but emotions are conflicting.
I'm glad youve got a consult follow up - we are in Essex, the glad who saw us when we lost ours is the same lady who looks after her now and she is fab, I feel so lucky she took us on that day as an emergency case, she really is kind and compassionate. I hope yours is as nice, it makes a big difference x

It must have been so hard waiting all that time for the results.

We were told the baby could not survive so decided to have an amnio and were able to get the results back quickly.

The consultant we saw on the day and who will follow up our case was lovely so I feel lucky too.

It is so hard, nothing can replace the child you have lost and so you must always remember that child. This one is another to add to your family. Knowing how long to wait is really difficult.

x

I think you should till your ready. No one told us a time to wait and they were very pleased to see us 4 months later - a suprise pregnacy as we had been told ivf only hope. Why we had so long to wait was we were at 20 weeks, although results would have come back 3 days later, it would have been at the 21 week mark which would have meant a different proceedure, which I could not bear the thought of being done - the problems on the scan were very obvious, so for her same we did not wait and accepted a long wait - Xmas delayed everything too.

Glad you've got a nice consultant - makes the difference. Xx
