carpal tunnel syndrome

ugh, i hate this! i developed it 2 years ago when i was pregnant with my DD and it has unfortunately stayed with me. i've had a nerve conduction study and am seeing orthopaedics again in 2 weeks. i've been wearing splints at night for over a year now and no improvement.

has anyone had either the steroid injections or carpal release surgery?

I used to laugh at my friend who had it bad.. Then Karma came and when I got pregnant at 40 I got it ...I really never thought it was a big thing , till I got it... Now i am 45 and still have it, I just deal with it, it comes and goes.. IT IS VERY annoying and very uncomfortable..I know someone that had the surgery and she is great and it's been over a year...A lot of people I know have had success with the surgery,,, Hope you get some relief..XXO

I have it too Hun. I wear my splint during the day as it was preventing me driving or picking things up so its comfier and easier to wear it during the day. I had a nerve conduction test done but I'm due to see he plastic surgeon about it not sure why?
I've had injections previously for something else they are so so painful. In worried as the injections will just mean a day off work (or 2 depending on bruising etc as its my dominant hand) but although the surgery isn't invasive it's a 4 week minimal recovery apparently.

hmm, not sure why it's plastic surgery for you! it's orthopaedics i'm seeing, i know which part of the country you are in, maybe it's just differs depending on NHS trust?

i was wearing my splints during the day for a bit during the day, but mine is both hands so it's a bit cumbersome and i don't know if it helped me much!

the nerve conduction test was cool, eh?! i was so impressed!

i didn't realise that the injections would mean a day or 2 off work! do you think i will get the injections on the day i go? i hate not knowing what's going to happen! my appointment is next monday and i've got an exam later that day, it's multiple choice though so won't be much writing thankfully, hopefully i'm alright for it!

I'm in Scotland Hun so not sure?
Yeah it was so weird. I asked he lady the results she said she couldn't tell me but then she did say my left side was significantly weaker.
I'm left handed luckily so far has just been left side I couldn't deal wth both hands Hun god knows how you do it. At the moment I'm struggling to open packets. Like crisps etc just no.

Yeah my worn requires a 22 mile commute so 44 per day plus in work travel so apparently my friend had the injections doctor told her she was fine but she really struggled for a few days just very tender and sore which is a nightmare!
No I think the doctor will want to see you again first before making a decision. Have you had physio on your hands at all?
