Hi all,

Our little girl was born at 28 weeks. She is now 32+4 and doing well. We are still a good bit away from bringing her home but trying to get organised for when we do!!

I've been wondering about carriers... I have a stretchy wrap which I will use to carry her myself but dh would be more comfortable with a more traditional type of carrier (like the Baby Bjorn etc) Does anyone have any experience of using these with premmies or can recommend a particular brand? I had a quick look at the Baby Bjorn Miracle Carrier and it's not recommended til 8lbs. Has anyone found one that can be used at a lighter weight?

Thanks for any advice!!!! :D

I was planning to get a soft structured carrier (I would not recommend the Baby Bjorn, it doesn't let baby's hips develop properly. I would look into an Boba 3g or Ergo). I plan to get the Boba 3g, but it is 7lbs +. I ended up getting the Boba Wrap, which is a stretchy wrap. I will use that for now and get the carrier when he is 7lbs+. He should be there in a few weeks, so I am not worried.

The best idea is probably a stretchy wrap made from breathable materials, but it's best getting advice from who understands, even the NICU physiotherapist. It's even more important for preemies to be in the right carrier (I didn't know this back when we had ours, but we didn't use it much after all)

There are a few carriers like the close caboo, and mamas and papas wrap, which are modelled on a stretchy wrap but don't need tying (you put them on like a t-shirt and the loops are already in place) which your Oh might find easier than tying a wrap, you could ask if they are suitable for your LO.

I would stick with your stretchy wrap untill baby is a few months old and then look at something like a connecta, wompat, ergo or a bobba. Even term babys can struggle to get a good fit untill they are older. Stay away from baby Bjornd, when I'm on my laptop tomorrow I will post you a link as to why

I was thinking of this the other day. I did quite a bit of research and most carriers/slings seem to come up at 7lb or over? Is there any brands that are for smaller? x

My Boba wrap says it is from birth to 15lbs, it specifically says it can be used for premature babies. I think a basic stretchy wrap will be good for preemies, but I would check...but since they are all tied the same way?

All stretchy wraps can be used from birth no matter the weight but some brands put weights on for legal reasons more than safe use.
