I just had my baby on 15th and we are both doing very very well. I used castor oil mixed with orange juice 6:30 pm on 14th April i was 41+1 day pregnant i never had diarrhea and no vomiting every body is different it causes diarrhea for some people and it does not for some . Every body is different my mum used it for all her children including me, my grand used it. I read all the nasty things people say online without them trying it. Am writing this for those ladies that want to try and are not sure. It does not cause any problem people are writing things like i said before without trying it.
I woke up with contractions at 5 am got to the hospital my water broke at 6:50am started pushing at 7am baby was born at 7:23am i had a perfect delivery for my first child the birth was so quick i could not take any pain relief. I left the hospital with baby at 5pm.
Ladies if you never try you will never know.

First of all Congratulations

The main reason caster oil is not recommend for use in pregnancy is because caster oil is basically a laxative. It is meant to give you loose stools and it tells you that alot of people get stomach cramps and vomiting and when you have these things you can end up dehydrated which in turn can make you go into labout. Some people swear by it and others think it is rubbish just like rasberry leaf tea etc. The only thing a midwife recommends is sex as sperm stimulated the cervix.
The problem is, people are using it before 40 weeks because they are fed up or too uncomfy. If a person wants to use it, fair enough but they need to be safe and do not exceed the recommened dose, never use before due date and never use it if you are classed as high risk.

Castor oil also worked for me without any stomach issues. I went into labor about an hour after taking it! I will be using it again with this pregnancy :) Congrats on your new baby!

I am not pregnant, and I haven't given birth before, but I do have IBS and know more than I ever wanted to about stomach complaints! It seems to me that aside from taking caster oil responsibly like one of the previous posters said, the most important thing is to know your body. If you're prone to tummy trouble to one degree or another it seems like a bad idea. I certainly won't be taking it! But if you're solid in that department (and boy, do I envy you folks!) it seems worth a try as long as your doc/midwife feels it's safe.

To the OP - I'm so glad you had a positive birth experience! First I'll pray to fall pregnant with a healthy fetus, then I'll immediately start praying for a delivery like yours!!!

I also used castor oil to induce labor just 4 days ago. It was really a good decision for me. I was 40+1 and facing a hospital induction. It was recommended to me by my MW whom is very well respected in my area. I took it at 7:00 pm and was in full blown labor by 1 am. I did have two bouts of diarrhea around 11 that night but nothing too bad. I did a lot of research before making the decision to use it, but it was right for me!
My daughter was born at 4:08 am after only 3 hours of labor and I am sure this played a role.

I took it too on recommendation from my MW at 39+5, and got a bout of mild diareah and had a short labor with no meconium in the waters and didnt poo during the labour cos I was already cleaned out!!
Ladies if you do take it, wait till you are at least 39-40 weeks and dont take too much, and keep up those fluids! :)
Congrats on your baby mumtobe :)

My friends baby died from castor oil. He also got the runs and swallowed it. He choked and died in the womb.

So personally I don't get why people take it when the risks are written everywhere. Each to their own i guess but people usually give up smoking when their pregnant as it harms the baby and the risk of death so why do people still take castor oil?
