So frustrated. I have a what to expect app on my iphone & on day 123 it says don't eat caesar salad.

I love caesar salad and have eaten it more than once. I never saw this on the list of things not to eat, my dr never said not to eat it. Why would this (stupid) app wait to tell me until 17weeks?

Now I'm worried I hurt the baby. I know I'm overreacting & everything is probably fine, but that's so frustrating!

To be honest I can't think of anything in a ceasar salad that would be on the naughty list, maybe if it has anchovies in? But are they a problem?
Either way I wouldn't worry yourself over it.

Only thing I can think of is that in a posh caesar salad in a restaurant there might be raw eggs in the dressing - but I can't see how a shop bought one or one with a shop bought dressing could be a problem.

Yeah it's because the dressing is made with raw eggs but I still eat it, here all eggs are pasteurized the chances of something happening are very slim. Plus if it's bottled it's even less likely that there is even raw eggs in it, usually only at nicer restaurants

It's the raw eggs in the dressing. Unless you got it at a nice restaurant where they made the dressing there or made the dressing at home you are safe. I eat Caesar salads at least 2 times a week with store bought dressing (I contacted the company to make sure their egg products were pasteurized).

If anything you ate already was contaminated, you would have become sick pretty quickly after eating it and would have known about it. Most store bought dressing and dressing you get at fast food places AND most restaurants is safe, but just to be safe you can email the company and ask if their egg products are pasteurized. I got a response within 24 hours.

It is pretty stupid that they waited until now to tell you though. My OH is on this website that sends him a bit of information each day, like you have, and the other day it said that to avoid backaches, make sure you do back strengthening exercises BEFORE you get pregnant, so your back is strong enough to carry the extra weight without pain. WTH??? That's good to know during week 16, hahaha!

Hope this helps!

i've ate so much ceasar salad, i wouldn't worry, your totally fine!

also could be that the parmesan isnt pasturised, but shops bought ones are fine I would think its only the fancy restaurants that might make it fresh and then its easy to ask to be on the safe side xx cant be the anchovies went through a stage at the beginning of preg where all i wanted was marinated anchovies, cant stand them now xx

Home made dressing and the poached egg on top would be the only two things I could think of. Maybe its just ANOTHER thing that in order to enjoy it you have to make it at home with store bought dressing.

its only due to the raw egg. anchovies arent an issue. but hardly any restaurants make it with raw egg, and you can always ask. the bottled ones on a store shelf, are warm until taken home, therefor are completely safe. don't worry. i had this same heart attack at like week 9 when my friend informed me "you cant have caesar dressing" to which i researched it extensively cuz iw as scared to death! its just the eggs, and that is sooo rare. just read the ingredients.

There have been quite a few things in pregnancy that you are not supposed to eat that I have eaten and been fine :) I think sometimes doctors go a little crazy with their "lists". :)

i think its one of those things that some crackpot said you cant do and its rediculous lol x

iv also eaten it hun loads in this preg and everything is fine, and i even have the occasional runny egg with my food but i use the eggs from tescos which the chickens are vaccinated for salmonella so the risk is very low from eating them, i got to be honest though in this preg (my third) im alot more laid back on the things i eat like once a week i eat fresh prawns and have had the occasional bowl of fresh mussels with garlic dressing coz i just crave them and iv been fine, i told my MW im eating this and she says its fine just to make sure there fresh and well cooked which i always make sure of, the only things i stay away from are the big NO NO's like vitamin A foods, alcohol and soft unpasteurised cheeses apart from that the menu is my oyster :haha: xxx

When I was preggo with my first I craved Caeser salads and ate them all the time. You can ask if the dressing is made with raw egg or egg yolk powder. I did find ONE restraunt that made it with powder and couldn't tell the difference. Also, for home if you can find a brand called Briannas. They make theres with egg yolk powder. And it's still fabulous!! I don't know if you can get it in Canada or not. Here it's located in the Natural/high-end section - - it's not with the regular dressings. If you can't find it try checking the labels. . you might be able to find another that uses a powder. . then again if it's bottled isn't it pasteurized anyhow. . so maybe it doesn't matter? I'm not sure on that detail. . .
