Cervical funneling

Hello everybody,

So today I got some terrible news. I went into my Gynaecologist this morning because I had been experiencing sharp cramping pains last night and he did a scan and discovered that my cervix was funnelling. And he told me that I had basically gone into pre term labour! I'm only 18 weeks tomorrow and I'm terrified!

I've been put on complete bedrest and I am going back to see him on Wednesday to see if I will need to get a stitch put in to keep my cervix closed.

Hopefully you ladies can give me a little positivity as I'm so scared of losing my little girl

You should post in incompetent cervix its a lot of ladies that can help. I have a cerclage and almost 35 weeks with twins

In my last pregnancy I was dilated with membranes bulging at 21 weeks. They thought I would deliver in 24-48 hours but thankfully I didn't. On day 5 they put in a rescue stitch as they were happy I wouldn't labour and was showing no signs of infection.

Unfortunately I did get an infection at 25 weeks which triggered labour but that was always a high risk as I had been dilated for 5 days and had no mucas plug.

If your cervix is still closed although with funnelling when you get a stitch your chances of infection will not be as high.

They make the procedure sound so scary. I have a cerclage placed in at 20 weeks everything was fine. I had a funnelling cervix. I even went into preterm labor at 25 weeks with the cerclage in place with no issue the were able to stop labor. I dont know why the docs make it all sound so terrifying. I know have a handsome 6 month baby boy who is my world. But I will tell I had the worst pregnacy I was hospital ized a good majority of the time not due to the funneling. And the doctors made it seem so terrible. I was always terrified of the what ifs and this could happen.
