Cervix position

Okay so I know how to check my cervix, but they say it fluctuates throughout the day so to do it at the same time every day. I never questioned this until today. I am fairly certain I have ovulated but being that I had a CP last month there is always the chance my cycle will be a little off. So I usually check around 3 pm. Just because, I checked it this morning at 8 and it was so high I could barely reach it (which its never that high) and way more soft than usual. I checked it again at 3 and it was low soft and open. My issue is, which one would be right? At 8 am it was a "fertile" cervix but now it's not. If I checked it every day at 8 I would feel I was close to ovulation. I'm just worried I didn't ovulate yet. I have a 14 day lp and if I am ovulating today I will get AF the day before I participate in a tough mudder. That will really suck.. anyone an expert on this?
