i have been told that if you are 17 and under and your child is smaller than he should be they give you a cesarean at 36 weeks ? does anybody know any more information about it ?

Age has nothing to do with it... :S i dunno who told you that but they wont give you a c section at all... the only time you will be given one is if there is something wrong with baby... im pretty sure if they have any worrys/he/she isint growing they will induce you but not until 37 weeks...

ive never heard of that hun i was pregnant at 16 and a c-section was never mentioned x

Nope never heard of this either.

c-section only needed if something needs to be done about yours or babies health nothing to do with age.

I was preg at 17 gave birth naturally.

I've never heard of it either and I very much doubt that it is the case, age is not a medical reason unless the girl is very young i.e pre teen, you need to ask your midwife or doctor :flower:

hes critically small for his due date, so apprently they will monitor it and if they think hes still small about 36 or 37 weeks they will give me a c section because he will do better in a incubator or something :S

I've never heard of this and i'd just turned 16 with my first and they were worried about his size, he ended up bigger than they thought at 6lb.

I was also inducewd with my first daughter for SGA (small gestational age) no c-sec ever mentioned.

ahh i didnt know what to think, i was shocked as hell, because thats like 6 weeks away :$

If there is a problem with his growth inside your womb its usually an indicator of the placenta not functioning properly which yes in that case he would be better on the outside where he can thrive more then he will in your tummy.

Its only where theres a problem that they will do c-sections age has nothing to do with it. x

as said i think age has nothing to do with it unless your say 14 and not able to give birth naturally.
being small for gestation is a different kettle of fish. Most people whom docs r very worried about will perhaps be induced early but i think a c-sec is very last resort

thankyou :) that clears it up much better for me, i have my scan thursday :) so they should tell me whats going on x

nope neither age nor size is usually valid reason for a c section... especially before term!!!

your baby would most definitely do better in your tummy than in an incubater
unless you arent eating well or an eating disorder is suspected in the mother and it corncerns the dr i have heard of that before
otherwise you definitely dont have to be forced to have a csec unless the baby is in danger..
the longer the baby is in there the better he can grow! take your vitamins! eat well! :)

oh yes or if the placenta isnt functioning.. jus ask the dr to inform you a little more

i can't see why they'd give u a c-section hun so don't worry.
a friend of mine was pregnant nd her lo stopped growin at 36 weeks... she is unable to carry babies to term... but she was induced... c-sections are only used if necessary xx
