Hi

I have been feeding Mirren Cow & gate Comfort since 3 days old - she was going 3-4 hourly for the first week, but this has gradually reduced. She is now going barely 2 hourly during the day, then a 3-4 hour night feeding.

she spits up quite a bit after a feed so we have to keep her upright for 20 mins after each feed, so with it taking 30 mins for her to drink 4oz then 20 mins upright/mopping up spit up session - it's then only just over an hour til it starts again:wacko:

I was wondering if as the comfort milk is easier to digest whether it was being digested too quickly leaving her hungry all the time. Once she's hungry she won't stop screaming and crying for a bottle so cannot delay feeding times.

I just wondered if I switched to a regular formula if it would lengthen time between feeds - but worry it will cause digestive problems? I only used this formula as it was what DS was on when he was a baby due to colic, seeing as she's been on it since birth I don't know if she would have the same problems as Nathan did......what do you think?

Hi hun, my LO is also on cow and gate comfort and he can go 3-4 hours during the day without a feed and between 4-6 hours at night depending what sort of night we have, lol. I personally havn't noticed feedings having to become more regular - LO was previously on aptamil but that kept making him sick. I would say stick with it for a while, he is only little, so does need feeding every 2-3 hours at the moment.

Regarding the sitting upright issue - have you considered using a swing sometimes - he will be upright in the swing and will probably love it! Might also free you up a little bit if you can't afford to be tied to the sofa each time :)

Hope that helps a bit x

Maybe it's just her age then, or maybe a growth spurt she was 9lb at birth and is now 10lb.........

I have tried putting her into he bouncy chair after feeds, but she just spits up and it goes everywhere if your not there to mop up. I don't mind sitting with her for this time- but I also have a demanding almost 4 year old who needs things doing etc......

I personally would change to the normal formula, Niall was also a big baby and was eating huge amounts straight away. My HV advised not to change to hungry milk as it can cause digestive problems blah blah blah but he was always hungry even on 9oz every 3 hours!!!

we've tried 5 different types of formula and settled on Cow & Gate hungry, we have lots of half empty tins of formula but Niall is finally much more content - this said he is still on 7oz bottles and thats hungry milk, my HV nearly fainted when I told him but if baby is happy then I'm happy. I'd advise go with your instincts go the other milk a go the worst that'll happen is a bit more sick maybe a couple of hours less sleep for a few days...the end results are worth it when you find what suits your wee one.

I reckon this moust be a common problem with big babies - I was 2 months premature but weighed 7lb so I was pretty huge for me dates, my mum had me on 2 weetabix with milk for breakfast and mash with gravy at 4 weeks old as I wouldn't settle so I was kinda expecting the same issues when Niall was born so big.

Good luck xxx

James is on Cow and Gate Comfort and he feeds every 3-4 hours during the day and only once at night. I certainly havn't noticed feeds getting closer together. I would persevere for now hun.
