My lo is very hyper and has been crawling a few months now. She sees getting her nappy changed as getting in the way of playing and keeps trying to flip onto her front and crawl away

I have to hold her by the hip and the by the ankles but she can sometimes get away and I'm worried I'll hurt her or leave bruises! She screams blue murder too which doesn't help

Any advice? A toy works sometimes but she often throws it away to crawl after it.

Pin 'em down and do it as fast as you can!
My two little ones are still in nappies and both are a PITA to change! Like you, a random item sometimes works but if not, I hold them down with my forearm and do it at a million mph.

Yup just do it as quick as you can and pin her down if you need to. We also did holding a toy.

the advice here made me laugh but its so true...Pin 'em down and do it as fast as you can! ha ha

I was able to (gently!) pin down DD's shoulders with my bare feet for a while but she's too wriggly even for that now. I've mastered the art of putting a nappy on a standing baby, lol. Much more difficult to clean in her creases etc when she's standing though. If DH is about I get him to help, and handing her random kitchen utensils sometimes grabs her attention for long enough, but we're running out of new and interesting things to give her! I'm hoping it's just a phase (please tell me it's just a phase and she won't be like this til she's toilet trained?!)...

I usually give her something she really wants but which isn't usually readily available, such as Daddy's keys or my phone! :haha:

Glad it's not just me I was worried I was being too rough. I have mastered putting socks, tights and trousers on her as she crawls away

She does get my phone occasionally but she had diahrrea last week...

I've a friend who is a taekwondo black belt I may ask him lol

Food, the really annoying toy you usually hide, mobile phone.

Sometimes the above help but usually it's a pin her down and get it done kind of job :D

Dd did the same at that age. I misread the topic and thought you were asking about having a mobile over your changing table. That could also work. I tended to try and give dd anything to distract her while I changed her. this could include things like her hair brush or hair ties or even the clothes I was planning to put on her. mom used to give her a baby wipe which dd would promptly start wiping her face with hehe.

Probably not a phase... My daughter was out of diapers, but is back in. At least at this age I can get her to cooperate by limiting her range to the bathroom and telling her she can't leave until she's cleaned up and I'm not cleaning her up until she cooperates. It can take some time, but is easy enough once I get started. Oi, I want to be done with diapers again.

Lol oh yeah...the joys of nappies!! DD2 is much much harder to change at this age than DD1 was. I eventually had to resort to changing DD1 standing up a lot of the time at around 18 months. I can see that time coming even sooner with DD2. Some distractions work temporarily but not long enough to get her changed lol. Doesnt help that she also hates wearing clothes so getting dressed in general she just runs away!xx

I was just about to open the same thread, its driving me mad. The twin that crawls is impossible and the twin that doesn't crawl wants to be on his tummy. My nappies look crap!

Noooo, don't say that, haha! I'm wondering if a pull-up would be easier to get onto her...are they as absorbent as proper nappies?

I think they are just as good. But they are a hassle as you need to take trousers/tights off completely as opposed to just pullng them down. Especially annoying when baby has shoes on and you are out.
I bloody hate nappy changes. My 22 month is generally quite good but my 8 month old hates it!

What about changing their clothes? My two have never liked it, really cry at night when I put them pyjamas on, though this could be tiredness, but they do hate being changed in general! I do peekaboo and sing and pull faces but it always ends in tears :( Any advice on that?

Ah, I hadn't thought of that aspect...I admit I usually completely undress DD's bottom half for nappy changes, as have had too many instances of her getting her feet in it or transferring poop to her clothes somehow...I haven't had to contend with shoes yet but in a couple of weeks, when she will get fitted for her first shoes, this will become an issue! Think we just have to grin and bear it, huh ;)

I don't generally do pajamas. I just dress them comfortably in the day time and they wear the same clothes at night. I also don't change their clothes every day. If they aren't too dirty and they don't smell, I only change their clothes every couple days. If they do get dirty or smelly, I change the clothes as needed.

I on the other hand seem to be forever changing them. Poop escape when their tummy is dodgy, pee escape when my nappy abilities are dodgy, sick, slobbering (though the latter I have sometimes dried it and put it back again). They wear a very thin one piece pyjama, short sleeved and short legs, as its extremely hot here. During the day they have shorts and t.shirt
