Hi ladies.....Just a quick question about changing formula. My 2 week old boy has been on SMA since I stopped breast feeding 6 days ago. The last couple of days he has been full of wind, very uncomfortable, and no matter how I try to get his wind up he still looks bloated and cries. Today he has been quite sick after all of his feeds apart from one, where he will be sick when he burps, and it is with such force it clears his bib and lands on me.
I am wondering if the SMA isn't suiting him, maybe it's a bit rich for him, and I'd like to change to Aptimil. The health visitor isn't coming till Wednesday, I won't be able to contact her tomorrow with it being Sunday and I only have enough SMA left for tomorrows feeds, then would need to change, so I wouldn't start a new tin of SMA.

I was wondering if you can just change feeds, just like that?

Thank you for any answers in advance :hugs:

I have exactly the same problem with SMA and also want to switch to Aptimil - thanks for asking the question and saving me all the typing! :)

The only switch I have done with formula is from Aptamil first milk to follow on and I just switched and he didnt seem to notice!

We have never had any problems with Aptamil it seems to be worth that little extra x

Any change of milk will have an effect and causes constipation etc if you change over remember this for the swap there too - he may not suffer as much ...worth a go but just wanted to let you know about the changes change in milk can do so this may be the problem. I was told to give the change 2 weeks with Caitlin when I swapped from SMA to Cow & Gate only to find out she had reflux.

If you do switch flormula it has to be gradual. It can cause serious digestive irritability if you do a sudden switch.

We had problems with Similac formula and my pediatrician switched his formula a few times before he was 5 weeks old and he ended up in ICU because he refused to eat and lost a ton of weight.

TAKE IT SLOW

I switched from SMA for the same reason. He was sick about one feed a day for 2/3days then was fine. I didn't ask HV i just went and did it as i knew a few people had the same problem with SMA

I changed from SMA to Aptimil on Sunday and he is no longer in pain when he needs to go. He is bringing some of the feed back up but I'm hoping this will settle down over the next few days. In general he seems much happier on Aptimil.
