When we put him on it I had no idea what sort the lady at the chemist recommended aptamil gold so I bought it (the dearest one) and he's never had a problem , now I'm wondering if I tried a cheaper one if he'd be just as happy? S26 is on sale this week and I'm thinking of trying it. What do u think?

No harm in trying. We found most of the stage 1 formulas to be the same. It was only when we tried special feeds (anti-reflux vs. staydown, the comfort milks etc) that we noticed a difference. Now Hadley is on stage 1 and her reflux has gone we buy the cheapest - cow and gate. She does fine on it.

Thanks I feel bad wanting to try a cheaper option but he goes through 1.5 tins a week and I honestly feel he won't notice difference

I read this somewhere but I can't remember what site - that the stage 1 formulas are generally very similar. My daughter has had both SMA and cow&gate (usually when her dad picks up the wrong one) she's never had a problem with it but seems to prefer the SMA.

Definitely no harm in trying :)
My LO has already been on 3 types of Cow and Gate and 3 types of Aptimal lol never had a problem switching him :)

That would certainly be our experience of them. If they are all the same it kind of makes sense to buy the cheapest. :) But we're pretty short on cash until I'm back to work so I'm bound to see it that way lol!

Well he is currently on a "gold" and I was going to try a regular should this be ok?

I would be really careful with continuously switching his formula. Did you slowly introduce this new formula he is on? My worry is if you switch him again that his poor belly will get upset.

I've never switched him, that's why in saying the first one I tried was the most expensive one cos thats what the lady at the store said to get, and now I'm wondering if I bought a cheaper one if he'd notice. He's such a piggy I don't think he'd care what sort it is!

I would just switch it slowly. I read somewhere that you should only increase it by one feed a day at the most until you completely replace all feeds. We tried to switch our daughter from Cow and Gate to Hipp Organic (I wanted to use organic to begin with but our local store doesn't sell it). We did it slowly but she still had a horrible reaction and developed awful reflux with projectile vomiting. :nope: We ended up switching back because it was just so awful. I've tried a few other times just adding in a feed or two a day, but she can't handle it. So just do it slowly and see what happens. They're all the same, so really it doesn't matter much.
