Ok so im really confused!

Im looking for a changing mat to go on our changing table and ive seen some really gorgeous ones but theyre mats with towelling on top with little fabric pillows etc, beautiful but surely VERY impractical!!!!?????

How is it gonna work if baby wees when nappy free on the mat, its just gonna soak the whole mat and the whole thing will need washing in the machine, surely plastic ones are better as you can just wipe them (although far less pretty lol)

Does anyone have any experience of the towelling ones (eg from mamas and papas)

I was looking on their website, and it says it's a wipe clean cover with removable toweling insert....? https://www.mamasandpapas.com/product-deluxe-changing-mattress-scrapbook-boy/415705101/type-i/ I normally put a blanket down over the plastic anyway, so I guess you could replace the towel with a blanket while it's in the wash? xx

I had one for my changing table but my plastic one matched my theme so i didnt use it. But the toweling bit was washable, it came off, i had two covers.

The mat was a lot thicker and warm so prob nicer for baby, but i didnt like the look of mine and my plastic one looked much nicer lol!

dont worry hun the toweling is actualy removable and it has the plastic but underneath, i never really bothered with them the good thing bout them is if the wee one does pee its usualy caught by the toweling and doesnt end up all up the back of them like the plastic ones, i found it easier to use an old towel as it would be goin in wash anwyays and stops ur wee one from getting a fright wi the cold plastic on its bum

Personally, if it can't go in the washing machine, I wouldn't be buying it. -Even 'wipe clean' is going to be a disaster come your first diaper catastrophe.

Terrible, terrible things can happen. :haha:

totally agree, it might seem like a good idea the fact its wipe clean, but wee goes everywhere and is a nightmare to clean up and baby and mat are wet lol! so the washing machine idea is good, and like someone else said can ise a towel if in the wash!
