My LO is 11 days old, and so far we've been using cow+gate stage 1 milk. At day 3 we had to move up to the bigger teats as he was sucking the small ones inside out! He's grazing allllllllllll day, we can't get him to finish a bottle at a feed, it's not that he falls asleep on a bottle as he's ofteb awake during the day, it's more like he's full, but will then cry for more an hour later (or less). During the night he started off really well, sleeping well + going back to sleep after a gfeed (like the grazing during the day helped keep him awake so he'd sleep at night) but the last few nights he's grazed at night as well, and although during the day he's absolutely fine, at night he seems to get trapped wind and we literally can't put him down till we've got wind up. That took over 3 hours to achieve last night. I'm one tired mummy.

We've decided to try a new milk, as we can always go back if it doesn't suit him. Which one to choose?

Should I change to stage 2 hungry baby to try and fill him at each bottle
Or
Should I change to comfort milk to aid the trapped wind (did this with my 1st and gave him such smelly pumps and poos mind!)
Or
Am I ok using hungry baby during the day + comfort at night, as this is the only time his wind bothers him?

Any opinions gratefully received!!!

i had aptamil hungry milk and it was the best thing ever i could have done. she turned from grumy and always hungry to a happy baby

i wouldn't recommend using hungry milk so early on, my health visitor advised against it. i use aptamil first milk and she's currently on 5oz which is quite a lot for a 3 week old but it works for us :) just go with the flow for the first few weeks. your LO is still very very young so don't expect a routine right away. we have also moved to variflow teats where she can control how much milk she is taking in as the slow flow teats were causing her to drift off during feeds which means she wouldnt take all the bottle so maybe that could be a suggestion?

You could try using infacol if he has traped gas it has allways helped mine. I wouln't move to the hungry milk yet.

I would stick with the formula you are using but give infacol before night time feeds. We had the same problem with Aptimel and he was fine once we added the infacol.

Thanks guys. We're already using infacol (have been since leaving hospital) but no luck. Health visitor came for the first time today and she said the hungry baby was worth a try. As we're sticking with the same brand (cow + gate) there should be no problems with trying it out and then going back if we have no luck. Will give it a try! We also bought anti colic bottles today, so fingers crossed the combination let's him go longer than an hour between feeds and eases the wind problems at the same time!
