Hi all,

My lo is 4 weeks. I've been doing bottles with 4 onces and using teat size 1.
My lo likes to have 1 or 2 ounces then fall asleep taking about an hour to two hours to feed this is quite along time to me and I don't think she should be taking this long. Does Any one think I should change the teat size I read somewhere that it may be the reason she is falling asleep because it's takibg to long for her to suck and falls asleep.

What does everyone think?

Thanks in advance x

Hi

I'm having the same problem with my 6 week old, keeps falling asleep and sucking the teat flat, my health visitor said to change to medium flow teats however when I tried this last night he took the bottle fine but then projectile vomited about half the bottle straight back up within five minutes so I'm now back on the slow flow, it may work for you however maybe give it a go.

youv got nothing to loose from trying it.

my baby is still on the 0+month teats and he is almost 4 months. he likes taking his time with his milk and hasnt fallen asleep tho. jeez i dont think he would dare miss out on a feed lol

I did it too early with Cadence and it was a mess, and hurt her tummy! We werent able to move to size 2 until 15 weeks. I would just try it for an ounce or two!

I think it's normal for a baby at this age to fall asleep on his bottle.
Usually when the teat size is not good any more, your LO will let you know by crying, pulling off the bottle and be upset.
Try waking your LO up a bit by touching behind the ear (worked for mine) or pull the bottle out every time your LO falls asleep... It should do the trick (plus he will learn not to fall asleep on the bottle)

When hannah was smaller she had this problem too. When she fell asleep we used to use that time to burp/change her - that usually woke her up.

Theres no harm in trying a bigger teat though. I use tommee tippee and they do a variflow teat which can be used any age? Not really sure how it works though!

My daughter was on size 2 teats by the time she was 3 weeks old as we were having the same problem, it's quite a big sign to change the teat if they are falling to sleep or turning the teat inside out x

Same problem here so went and got the size 2 today she has had 1 bottle with it and she drank it much quicker with less fuss so shall see what tonight brings =o)

ok scrap that my partner is feeding her now and so far she has choked 3 times =o(
