My husband and I have LOVED the name Charlotte (Lottie for short) for a very very long time. However, the newest royal baby is named Charlotte. Should that change our mind? We're due in January. I don't want her to have the same name as every other little girl out there. Gah. I just loved the name.

I'm in Canada if that makes a difference :)

Our other top choices are Grace, Evelyn, Eleanor (Ellie), Margaret (Maggie). However, Charlotte is the one we both can't get out of our minds.

What would you do?

Do you know a lot of Charlottes?

I like Charlotte! I actually don't know of any, but I think its getting popular in the US.

I love Charlotte. I so really like Evelyn, Grace and Eleanor, and I think all of these go well with your lg nsne too 😊

I'm not sure how royal Charlotte is affecting the rest of Canada, but here in Québec I think no one would think twice! It's such a lovely name! :)

I don't think it's a big deal. My first association with Charlotte has always been and still is with Charlotte from SATC! I think it's a good name.

I'm also in Canada and I've never met a Charlotte. :)

If you and DH love I'd go with it! The most important thing is you love it 💛

Thank you for your input!! It puts my mind at ease!

I really love the name but I was hesitant to use it after the royal baby was named. I just don't want her to be one of 8 other Charlottes in her class.

I tend to overthink things :)

I could have written this post myself!
I'm having the exact same dilemma and I'm in the UK! I love Charlotte but am now thinking twice since the princess arrived. Although if you intend to call her Lottie then I don't think you have an issue.
For what it's worth I also love Evelyn and I think Evelyn Charlotte (Charlotte as a middle name) is beautiful

Ultimately Charlotte is beautiful and if you love it you should use it xxx

I'm a teacher in Canada, and have come across some Charlottes but haven't found it to be overly popular so far.

I love the name, and the first thing that comes to mind for me is Charlotte's Web; she was such a wise, clever character and good friend. :) Great name!

If you love it, I say go for it. I don't think the Royal family using it will really effect it, as it was in the top twenty in 2012 and 2013 it was number 11, so it started climbing before she was born. Yes, it could sky rocket, but I say go for it. I always check out the US Social Security baby name page, as those are pretty reliable lists. Not sure if Canada has a similar site you could check out.

I love the name Charlotte, it's probably our top girls name at the moment a - I wouldn't worry about it being the princesses name, it's a classic name that's always in fashion.

It's very popular here in Australia... We know of three little charlottes in our friend circle - and another Charlotte in the uk(who is a teen) it is such a beautiful name....but I can see there being many charlottes in a class at school....if that doesn't bother you I would keep the name....if it does go for one of the others - I love them all :) my husband was one of many Daniels when he was at school - he loved it... He said he always had something in common with lots of people every year :)

Thanks for all the input! This is exactly what I needed to hear :)

charlotte is beautiful. I don't think it matters that the Princess used that name. I think since you've both loved the name for so long you would regret not using it.

My Charlotte or Lottie as she is known is 8, I still love her name. If you love it, go for it x

I wouldn't let something like that affect your name choice. Anyway, I don't see the name getting all that popular here in Canada. I'm honestly not even sure if I'd ever met a Charlotte now that I think of it. Never even had a single one in any of my classes as a child growing up (was born and raised in Ontario).

So I'd say, go for it! :)

I love it. I honestly don't think the royal baby will affect it too much, it's a pretty popular name anyway and I don't think George got any more popular after the Prince was born. X

I LOVE Charlotte. One of my favourite girl names :)
