Just came across this site whilst messing about on google...shocked to see that the birthing pool in my area is only used in 4 out of 1000 births!

Have a look ladies - forewarned is forearmed....

oh boy - looking at mine (Winchester) only 24.9% of VBAC's work, the other 75.1% end up being emergency c'sections. I wonder how many women this is in total?

I am supposed to try for a VBAC but am not keen on it anyway, to learn that statistic gives me forewarning to ask the right questions when I see the consultant who I know will tell me a VBAC is the best thing - humf!

I had an elective c'section due to breech baby last pregnancy and it was only 14 months before the next baby's dues date. I am already nervous about the idea of a VBAC and do not want to end up as an emergency c'section after hours of trying! By the sound of it the odds of my VBAC working are against me anyway.

Thanks for the useful info! :hugs:

Ish This just reaffirmed my belief that my hospital is gonna make me crazy. :( I never wanted to give birth there, but it's the closest, and my midwife went on and on about it being the best choice for me. :(

i think im missing something hun how did you get onto that page? when i go back to the main bit and select my hospital it comes up with about 3 statistics not a whole page

hmm my hospital has a high rate of giving cesareans...

lol i just found it in the end by clicking 'nearyby trusts' until i ended up in my own area

Hope that's true! I have been worrying that they are just anti-pool so don't encourage / allow it veyr often...

I looked at this site before I gave birth the first time and was rather alarmed at various percentages etc but I needn't have worried - everything was fine, so don't read tooo much into it.

I emailed my hospital about the birth pool , apparently its not very popular even though they have a special room now with plasma tv ipod dock staion etc set out like your lounge apparently (havent been to see it yet ) they said they had 10 water births last year though lots of people used the pool for pain relief , i was suprised how low the numbers were , i asked if all the staff were ok with it and they said they go on regular training updates etc and do water births at other hospitals to keep up their knowledge etc .
maybe you could contact yours for some info :)
