Hi goes

almost in 3rd trimester and wandered if anyone could help ?

I know some soft cheeses are a no no in pregnancy but how about Tesco own full fat soft cheese ? Found a recipe that had no egg in so thought I'd make it as have been avoiding most cheesecakes when I eat out just incase !
No where on the packet does it mention the cheese is paturised - does anyone know if it's safe to eat ?!

Oh my dear, you've made it to 3rd tri and managed to avoid cheesecake altogether? You're very courageous and I can't imagine the strength that took, cheesecake is my ultimate favorite. You'll be glad to know that regular cheesecakes are made with philly cheese and italian cheesecakes are made with ricotta cheese, both of which are perfectly pasteurized. The egg being in it plays no role in contamination because it is fully cooked. You've been avoiding cheesecake unecessarily, it's perfectly safe to eat so go ahead and eat a whole one! With blueberries is my favorite and I indulge weekly!

Yes, cheese spread like philly is fine.

Safe cheeses in pregnancy

Hard cheeses: smoked versions, caerphilly, cheddar, cheshire, derby, double gloucester, edam, emmental, English goat's cheddar, feta, gouda, gruyere, halloumi, havarti, jarlsberg, lancashire, manchego, orkney, paneer, parmesan, pecorino (hard), provolone, red leicester.

Soft, processed cheeses: garlic and herb roulade, cottage cheese, cream cheese, feta, goat's cheese without a white rind, mascarpone, mozzarella, processed cheese (such as cheese spread and cheese segments), quark, ricotta.

My mum does a Nigella recipe using phillidelphia cream cheese and it's blooming lovely!
:hugs:

Ive never stopped eating cheesecake hun, i couldnt function without it lol, go ahead and have some and enjoy :) xx

My midwife told me to stay away from Cheesecakes are some are ok to eat and others not and it can be hard to tell which type is ok to eat. I Would of thought that eating a little bit is ok.

I have been avoiding just to be safe also when I have this baby it will make the next cheesecake I eat even better :) can't wait told OH to bring me a cheescake in to labour ward straight after the birth. If he has no cheesecake he wont be coming in lol xx

Soft cheese like Philli is fine. I have continued to make and eat cheesecake occassionally even though my recipe has raw egg in it, though I wouldn't eat one I hadn't made (mine's the best anyway!!) x

Thanks girls

I've made a huge one and intend on eating lots of it tonight for desert !

I had Sainsbury's Triple Chocolate Cheesecake last night.....it was very yummy

Might have to buy another now after reading this thread.....

*slightly drueling*

Isn't it only mould ripened cheese that's advised against? Also it's fine if cooked.

Omg! Cheesecake! I love cheesecake but I cant find any around here or I am just being lazy lol.

MW told mw told me early on that generally shop bought stuff was pasteurised it was only home made mayonaises and soft cheeses that you needed to worry about, especially stuff from the major supermarkets. I could never have gone as long without cheesecake as you I LOVE it! In fact now I want one, thx ;)

I think shop bought stuff is pretty much always pasteurised/processed cheese, hun, so perfectly safe. :)

mm, cheesecake. i could really go for some strawberry cheesecake now, OR the cheesecake factory. Mm,mm,mm!

Sometimes I even just make the box kind, all you do is add milk and it tastes just as good. :flower:
