Hi girls i really need some advice. Has anyone experienced a chemical pregnancy?

I had a miscarriage on 2nd Nov 07 (had D&C) as the baby had no heart beat. 7 days ago i used Asda's own pg test and there was a very very faint line. I have been doing different pgs tests ever since (as i'm mad)!! I even used Clearblue digitial and urine sample results from doctors came back positive on Tuesday. BUT....i did another asda pg test last night and it was negative and same again this morning (5 hours from last wee)!! I was soooo upset i bought a Clearblue this morning (using 2nd wee) and that came up positive??!!! Help, i feel like i'm going insane.

Also, i started spotting slightly so i had a scan on Weds and they said it was too early to see anything, (not even a sac) and asked me to go back next week, i'm really worried.

Any advie would be great!

Hi,

From what I know you can never get a false positive on a pregnancy test but you can get false negatives. I would trust the Clearblue tests 100%. It sounds to me like the Asda tests are off. Why not wait until tomorrow morning and do another Clearblue digital test just to be reassured?

If it's a chemical pregnancy normally you get a positive and then get a negative a few days later followed by your AF.

Hi hun!

Every pregnancy is different and your Asda tests just might not have been that sensitive.

However, if you have had positives and now are getting negatives and spotting it could indicate a chemical pregnancy - although, I would do some more tests and speak to GP. It could just be early days and the HCG level has not built up enough to register on an Asda test but enough for a Clearblue (they are very sensitive). Also, loads of women spot blood during pregnancy and have healthy babies.

My best wishes to you - I hope things work out well.:hugs:

Good luck hun, I'm sure everything will work out fine

Pregnancy tests need more HGC than doctors tests do. Maybe that's it?

I was actually bleeding red blood in the first tri and my LO is fine! :)

Hi girls - thank you all for replying :hugs:

I am just confused because yep even though i have had positve results from last Fri, 2 negatives last night and this morning - i bought a clearblue today and it was BFP ! I just feel so down at the moment as i want this baby so much.

I dont feel like AF is coming either and the spotting has stopped, just hate the waiting game!! I've been asked to go for another vaginal scan next week to see if there is a sac there.

Can someone tell me what is a 'chemical pregnancy'. :dohh:

Hi Rumpskins

A very early miscarriage is sometimes referred to as a 'chemical pregnancy'. This is when the pregnancy is confirmed by a very early pregnancy test (before the next period is due or around the time it is due), but 2 - 3 days later a period starts. A urine pregnancy test will often be 'faintly' positive, but a blood test (if one is done) normally shows low HCG levels, which don't increase over time. Without testing, most women are not aware they were briefly pregnant, because there are no obvious physical signs of pregnancy and nothing can be seen on ultrasound.

Early miscarriages such as these are thought to occur when the egg is fertilised, but dies soon after implantation. These are thought to be fairly common, probably involving up to 30-40% of all pregnancies. The bleeding experienced often resembles a heavier menstrual period, perhaps with some small blood clots, and possibly some cramping.

I think you can get some pregnancy symptoms with chemical pregnancies.

I miscarried at 5 weeks (although I think the miscarriage had begun a few days earlier). So I would have been within the chemical pregnancy range. Id definately got at least one strong pregnancy symptom. I had really sore nipples, which I never get during normal PMT. That was actually what made me test early and I was not surprised when I got a BFP.

Hi girls.

Just to let you know i have been experiencing stomach cramps and bleeding so i went for a scan this morning to be told the womb is empty now so they have taken some bloods to rule out ectopic pregnancy

I will be moving over the miscarriage thread.

Take care and best wishes.
