So we put together the nursery last weekend...finally!!! Anyways the changing table had a strong smell when we opened the box. We put all the furniture together and I left the fan on in the room all week.

It still smells awful in there!!! Also, I put all the clean baby clothes in the dresser and it smells too. I smelled the clothes today and they smell gross too now. UGH!!!!!

Does anyone have any suggestions to get the smell out!?!?! Baking soda maybe?

I'm trying my best to get rid of the new smell from the chest of drawers but only through trial and error of different things so I would also like to know if anyone has a tried n tested method :)
So far I have cleaned the insides with fabric softener (slight addiction to the smell so thought why not) then I was using fragranced tumble dryer sheets and leaving the draws closed for a few days and then open for a few days.
Now I have just shoved all our bath towels in there (figured they could just absorb the smell rather than the baby clothes) and touch wood it seems to be working so far lol
I just wanna put all the baby clothes in there all nice lol boooooo
Sorry for rambling

it takes time! our bassinette smelled horrible. i actually didn't realize until a few days later how bad it was. i thought the cat had peed somewhere in our room. i pulled everything apart trying to find where he peed only to realize it was the bassinette! after a few weeks the smell went away.

Maybe try putting cups of baking soda in the drawers for a few days? Might help absorb the odors.

Oooh I love the smell of new furniture. I kept going in and sniffing! We did leave the window on the latch for a few weeks though so its now pretty much gone so now put his clothes in.

Both our crib and toddler bed smelled really strong when we first put them together. Open windows if you can. I can still smell it if I put my nose to the toddler bed but after a year and a half there is no scent to the crib.

That is crazy that it is still there!
Thank you ladies, I will open the windows and try baking soda. It just smells soooo bad in there.

Our nursery still smells like paint and new furniture. We're letting it air out though.

The new furniture smell is actually toxic gas being released from the paint and chemicals used to treat the wood. Definitely let the room air out before you put your LO in there!

You might want to try putting smaller, lighter items (whatever is easy to move) outside in the sun for an afternoon or two. It will help them off-gas and air out much faster. I would especially do this with any mattresses, swings, or strollers (places where your baby will be spending lots of time) that have a chemical smell, as these smells are actually chemical fumes that your baby will be breathing in.

Any removable fabric can of course be washed a few times to get the smell out.
