Hi ladies,

I'm currently experiencing chest pain and have been for the past couple of hours. It's in the left of my chest and gets more severe if I inhale sharply, bend down or move my left arm. I text my sister about it who said that it was heartburn and to have some gaviscon, I had a couple of rennies a while ago and it isn't shifting. I've had heartburn before but this feels different and I don't know whether I should be worried or not and don't want to make a mountain of a mole hill!

I've spent all day moving furniture, tidying up, painting the nursery and cleaning carpets. Some heavy duty stuff and I'm feeling sore all over and don't know if this is what is causing it?

I've also noticed reduced movements, normally by now my boy is going crazy and my stomach is jumping about all over the place but I've only had slight twinges.

Anyone had anything similar, please tell me I'm over reacting!

I haven't experienced anything like that before. The fact that you feel it when you breathe in could mean it's muscular or it could be something like a blood clot in the lung (don't jump to that conclusion, though!!) I think the best thing to do would be to call your doctor. Even if it is nothing, it's worth getting checked out for your lo's sake and yours. I hope everything turns out fine and it is just a pulled muscle or something :flower:

It sounds like you done a lot today! I would guess some of the reduced movements (as sounds like your having some) is because you have been busy. I often dont feel my baby move when I am actively doing something else, or really busy.

The chest pain could be anything - am not really sure, but would get checked out. Doesnt do any harm... my husband managed to crack 2 ribs when his hand missed the hand rest on the side of the sofa.... He felt like it hurt to breathe and was in a lot of pain. You could have done something similar with all that heavy lugging.

I have never suffered heartburn so dont know abt that!

Thanks for the replies ladies. The movements have returned to normal and he is going crazy! I'm guessing the reduced movements are because of how much I was doing today so I'm less worried now because I know he is fine.

Still having the chest pains, had some more rennies to see if it subsides so I know it was definitely heartburn but if not I shall phone the hospital to get some advice xx

I had what this sounds like about a week ago, it was SO sore, I thought it was perhaps some funny braxton hicks, but high up, but I think I did just get a couple of them too at the time, probably because of the pain!...I even had a warm bath to try ease the pain but nothing, felt like I had a ruler stuffed up my ribs and when I bent a bit it was agony, every position was horrid.
In the end I had the bath, took a rennie, took two paracetamol, drank a glass of water and lay on my left side and got my husband to rub my back, which was hurting too from behind on the one side that was hurting at the front by my ribs. Eventually after like an hour and a half it stopped hurting so much and I fell asleep whilst watching TV whilst lying on my side that didn't hurt so much!....I refused to move tho much from that position for almost a day incase it came back tho! lol

P.S. I think now, that one, my baby was laying back to back with me, and two he had his foot stuck in my ribs or something...another lady who used to be a midwife suggested that too.

Could you be experiencing an anxiety or panic attack? I remember the first time I had one I thought I was having a heart attack and the worry of it made the pain in the chest worse, like I couldn't breath...

The pain you describe sounds like pleuritic chest pain, I'd be wondering what was going on with my lungs...I'd get it checked out to be sure, good luck!

I had similar, left sides chest/shoulder/neck pain recently which I (and my doctor) attributed to an ulcer in my esophagus. I've had one before so I recognized the feeling. When you have long term daily heartburn, like in pregnancy, it can damage your esophagus. Honestly, it hurt so bad for 3 days I was in tears several times, particularly after a meal or when lying down. It also worsened with breathing.

Ultimately you need long term control of heartburn to give it time to heal and only then will the pain subside. I was on prescription prevacid for 3 days, completely heartburn free before getting noticeable relief. It's continuing to improve now that i've been on it longer. Don't think i've had any heartburn since starting prevacid.
