What's the first thing that comes to mind when you see the name Chester?

OH and I kinda like it (possible nickname Chet), but when I googled "Chester", some negative things came up that wouldn't have occurred to me. I was just wondering if anyone else on here noticed? I realize this name probably isn't to everyone's taste, but for the moment, let's set that aside. Just tell me if anything negative/rude comes to mind?

Don't google it, I want this to be a fair test. Thanks!

Being from the UK it instantly reminded me of a famous zoo named 'Chester Zoo'- but apart from that I couldn't find anything negative from the name.

I think its lovely!

My first thought was Chester the Cheetah from Cheetos - and then I tried to think of ways kids may tease the name (which I try to think of with all names) and "Chester the Molester" came to mind.

Sorry! :flower:

Chester molester :/ would never name my kid that...I'm in the US... It would be cruel IMO. Sorry Hun

Thanks, guys. That's the nickname I found, too. Apparently it's a reference to some comic strip in a porn magazine from a long time ago, and I was hoping it was obscure and a "thing of the past," but apparently not...either that or the rhyme is more obvious than I realized.

Until I read that, my only associations with it were the guy from Linkin Park, and a character from the movie The Goonies, neither of which are an issue for us.

Too bad, we kinda like slightly odd/not commonly used names like this. Any suggestions for something with a similar feel to it (but without awful nicknames)?

How about the name Chesley? I heard this name on the news a few years ago - when that airplane almost crashed on the Hudson River and the hero pilot, Chesley Sullenburger, landed the plane safely on the water & all the passengers survived!

The name really struck me! It's so handsome & unique! Has a nice ring to it! I've been wanting to share it with someone for awhile - and this seems like the perfect time! :flower:

How about:

Heath
Flynn
Spencer
Fox
Heston
Kestor
Lorenzo
Robson
Greyson
Garrett
Evan
Emmett

my first thought was a horse I used to know called Chester somehow my mind wandered onto the thought of Jester too funny train thought lol

also makes me think of the main character played by Brendon Frazier in airheads... his character went by the name chazz

similar names:

Chase
Chet
Chess

a completely different name that similar is Heston (both share the 'hest' section)

It just sounds like a dog's name to me, like a black Labrador or something!

I don't think anyone in the UK would have heard of Chester the child molester I certainly never have!

Thanks. Unfortunately, I am in the US and it seems to be a common association here! :dohh:

I'm from the UK and nothing obvious springs to mind.
In fact I like it very much xxx

Aw, I really like Chester as a name but when you asked what it made me think of I thought of 'Chester-le-Steet' which is in the North East.

This name choosing malarky is actually really hard!

My first two thoughts...
* First just at Chester - reminds me of Chester Cheetah, the mascot for Cheetohs cheese curls

* After reading your post, it reminds me of the bad nickname others have posted. :(

Hello! I'm from the North East but moved away 9 years ago, I always thought I'd go back to settle there but I've managed to put my roots down. It's a lovely part of the country. We were up there for the Great North Run and my OH was amazed at what a nice city Newcastle is (clean, friendly people etc). xx

I thought of a black lab as well. Weird. Then the cheetos mascot, I'd never heard of Chester the molester... but it would put me off the name

Awe I'm sorry. I have to admit when I saw your title the first thing I thought was "Oh no! Not Chester the Molester!"

What about Malcolm?
