When do babies learn how to chew their food? Alex loves his fingerfoods, but still doesn't know how to chew. He gags on bigger bits of food, which then brings up anything he might have managed to swallow beforehand

Any time from about 6 months on hon, it just takes some babies a little bit longer than others but they get there in the end as long as you keep offering the fingerfoods.

Yeah any time from 6 months. Ruby was chewing well after we'd been offering food for about 2 weeks. Then there was a phase of spitting out the chewed food, ugh. But they all get it eventually!

Thanks, I will keep offering the food so... looks like he is a slow learner though, as at nearly 7 months he still gags on toast etc.

Even when a baby can chew they will still gag occasionally. Freya has been able to chew for about 2 months now, but still (either out of excitment, lack of conentration or laziness) gags sometimes. It doesn't mean they can't chew though. :)
