So FOB finally found a job, and we were talking about child support for Devlin. We don't wanna take it to the courts or anything, we just want to figure out something fair for both of us, but I am very unsure of how child support works.

Could someone explain it to me? I mean should I average out how much formula he tends to need a month and centre it around that? I just don't even know where to begin figuring this out with him :dohh:

So far he has suggested paying my rent so we both have a place to live, my car insurance for my truck so I won't get ticketed, and then whatever we decide on for formula and such for Devlin. I think that's pretty fair, although I don't like how much he has to take care of me (of course the rent and insurance is just until I find a steady job and can take them over on my own).

I mean, is that pretty reasonable? I am clueless:wacko:

Thank you!

Not sure about details but personally I would rather some sort of bulk cash amount jut going into my account from FOB rather than him paying my rent or insurance. Way too risky as unless i set money aside myself to cover it, what happens if he loses his job? cant pay up one month? or even just decides to stop doing that?

He can always ask for receipts if he wants proof his cash is being spent only on baby things etc.

Yeah I know what you mean. He says he'd give the money straight to me, but I dunno. Once we see how much he is making we'll be able to decide more. Plus I am applying for WIC and foodstamps for me and LO. So the assisstance will probably affect it too.

I get a set figure every month and then that covers all I need for them, I don't ask FOB for anything more.

If I wanted child support which I don't I signed an agreement stating fob has to pay half of every expense for the children as do I then I would get about $425 a month about $212 a child I figured it was just as easy for him to split me on everything. We never went through court we had a mutual friend who had the girls interest at heart write up the agreement and its working so far we have 50/50 split custody we split the expenses we get along for the most part. We even split the cost of jaymees chinchilla. But if you go online there's a way of figuring out what fob would have to pay. Or if you have a court house near by you can go ask for a consult my friends brother did this they kept it out of court and he pays exactly what he's supposed to with in his legal rights

I know in most states if you are applying for state aid and he is on the BC the state will take him to court and set it up though the state. Also you can go to the state that you live in website and they have a free child support calculator and you can go from there you just need to know both of your incomes normally.

Since we are living together we just applied for Medical and food stamps today and just said our marital status is Living Together. We're trying to do things as fairly as possible and when I find work we will split things 50/50 as closely as we can. He is being generous I think (considering how much of a jerk he can be sometimes about everything else) with paying for things until then, and asked me to stay home for the next at least five months and postpone looking for work. He wants me home with Devlin until then, which is why he suggesting paying for rent, since it his request that I stay home.

So it sounds like once I am working, just sitting down and keeping track of how much everything for LO is and split it as close to in half as possible is the best idea as long as we both have him half the time?
