Since coming home with our new little guy after an 11 day stay in NICU, I've been pumping and nursing every three hours. I've been getting major chills since we got home yesterday that dont stop unless I put on a bunch of layers or take a super hot shower. I dont think I'm sick or have mastitis or the house is cold, it seems to be pretty related to when I need to nurse baby. Is this normal?

Hi honey, I had this for a few days after I got lo home, it was horrible. My hv told me it was hormone related. I think it lasted a week at the most.x

I too had this and thought it was hormones. It probably was - but also when I was in labour I was sick a lot at the start and it lowered my postassium levels which could have given me the chills. I found this out later though so its not definitive what caused mine.

Hi, I had chills followed by hot sweats, turns out I had a serious infection and had to go into hospital, just watch out and contact dr if need be.

Thanks all. I had chills/hot flashes at day 5 after birth of my first child but this is a pretty delayed response (11 days). I've been religious about making sure to keep on a schedule and empty my breasts. Will be seeing dr. tomorrow for baby so will mention it. No other signs of infection, just uncomfortable.

I still get this...have had antib's, and tons of blood work done to no avail! M,y guess is a hormone imbalance that comes naturally with bf. Awful tho. Hope it gets better sn. xxx

Ooooh, meant to say also, I get them bad when fatigued (which is always) and i believe this is a commmon cause also.

I didn't know I had mastitis until I got a fever of 102 and chills. My breast had a streak of very pink up it towards the arm pit or like someone had "man-handled" me. (almost like bruising)

Do you have a fever too? I had a fever and chills with a uti the week after I came home. I also got chills occasionally when I would be super engorged, no fever with that. It wasn't mastitis, just rock hard boobies. Once baby ate and I expressed, it would go away. also, I had chills the first few days in the hospital, and they said it was the hormones leaving my body.
