Hi,

Two choroid plexus cysts were picked up at my 19 week scan today. Everything else measured within the normal range.

I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with this or if you know of someone who went through this, to share your experiences with me. Positive or negative, just anything would be helpful at this point.

For right or wrong, i know cpc's have an association with chromosomal abnormalities, and i can't help but freak out a little on the inside.

Many thanks

Drmsg thank you so so very much for your reply. I was starting to feel really alone in this as there haven't been any replies, but your post has brought reassurance and comfort. Thanks again. I'd hug you if i could. :hugs:

My daughter had CPC's around 20 weeks. She is now a perfectly healthy 11 year old.

Try not to worry too much until there is something definite to worry.

On the upside, you should get to see baby more often, as they had specialists scan me throughout the remainder of my pregancy to make sure they went away.

Good luck hun.

Thanks leighanne for sharing and reassuring. I am looking forward to more scans - that would be lovely to see our little monkey again.

Goodluck with the rest of your pregnancy. Not long to go :)

I am counting down the days... Bitter sweet though, knowing this will be my last...

Good luck hun.

I am carrying twins, and baby is breech with a cyst in her brain, baby b has a two vessel umbilical cord, my doctor is saying that they may want to do a amino test on each, everything else is normal though. Should I be worried.

My daughter had a CPC that disintegrated on it's own within a month. She is a happy and healthy 2 1/2 year old :)

They also found a CPC at my 20 week ultrasound this go around, along with a cord issue. While the two combined are soft markers for chromosonal disorders, I really feel that this cyst will go away on it's own, just as my daughter's did.

I know it is so much easier said then done, but try not too worry!

thank you, this is my 4th pregnancy and finally have my two girls, I have been drinking lots of fluids with vitamins, and staying off my feet I see my high risk doctor on the 23rd of this month, am hopefull, thank you

These are the two issues that we are dealing with with my son. I know it is scary, but try not to get too stressed out, that's not good for you or the babies.

OK, as far as the cyst...we experienced this with my daughter. Her's disintegrated within a month.

As far as the SUA (single umbilical artery), they will want to do more monitoring and growth checks to make sure that the baby is getting everything that it needs and growing appropriately.

As far as getting the amnios done, that is a personal choice. It is my understanding that the cyst is a soft marker for chromosonal disorders, but it sounds like it is the only one they found in that baby. It is also my understanding that the SUA, by itself, is not a soft marker.

My ob was very reassuring about isolated cpc's. He said it can be common and as long as everything else measured within the normal range then not to worry. He said that if other abnormalities were picked up such as webbed fingers or smaller thigh bones then they would be red flags but not really in isolated cpc's. He also said in his experience that most go away within a month.

Based on his experience, research and statitics available to him, he recommended against amnio in my case as the risk of miscarriage would be higher than the risk of the cpc causing any problems. We didn't do an amnio, but this is a personal decision and you need to do what feels right for you and your family.

Twins33 - good luck.

Babydust04 - thanks for sharing

she is going against it two right now, just keeping a really close eye on me and the babies, they both at 22 wks weighed a little over a pound each and no signs of ny abnormalities in the ultra sound, of course baby B wanted to play and not stay still for them so hopefully on the 23rd she will be more settled down. to get a better look at her. Thanks for the support,

Just wanted to update, as of my ultrasound this morning, my son's CPC has disintegrated! :happydance:

Update on my ultrasound as well, the cyst disingrated and my cervix closed back up and got thicker as well, I was prescribed folic acid and go back in 3 weeks, Baby B weighs 1 pound and 12 ounces and Baby A weighs 1 pound 6 ounces, Doc was really happy with what she saw. As am I.

Thanks for updating. That's really encouraging to hear. Makes me feel much more positive about cpc's.

my doc did tell me last time that they usually go away and if they do they do not come back. I was so relieved that nothing showed up this time.

Just an update that I had an ultrasound yesterday (week 25) and the cpcs have cleared. :happydance:

Hey all, I just found that they saw a couple CPCs on my 19 weeks ultrasound, but otherwise no abnormalities. My OB said it was common to see on an ultrasound and there was almost no concern, but I looked more into the condition and found there's about a 1/100 chance for an issue if a CPC was found (and when I was looking, it unfortunately said that the risk was still there even if the CPC resolved before birth). My OB had offered to have us meet with a genetics counselor, which I think I want to do. I also saw that a quad marker blood test (which I had elected not to do before) and a level II ultrasound (to look for abnormalities in more detail) were both indicated, so I'm going to ask if those can be done to hopefully give us some more peace of mind.

We went through the same thing with my son. Although my ob was very reassuring we went for a second opinion just to make sure we had nothing to worry about. My ob also recommended genetic counseling and a fetal heart ultrasound. My son is 2 1/2 and completely healthy.
