Hi ladies

I'm new to this section although I have been engaged for a looong time, 3 and a half years (and I used to say I hated long engagements lol) and we're not planning on getting married until 2012. I would love to get married in a church, I am baptised but my partner isn't and I never go to church, do you think a church would marry us?

I'm just starting to look at venues because we need to get married on a bank holiday weekend and there is only a choice of a few dates so we need to get booked into somewhere, its so exciting but seems like such a long way off!

As long as you live within the parish and convince the minister you really want to be married in the eyes of God, I'm sure they will marry you no problem. You may have to start attending, and/or undertake marriage preperation classes but the Church is usually pretty keen to get us 'young folk' in.

Can I ask why you have to get married over a Bank Holiday weekend? xxx

If you had asked this last week I would have said no, but I saw an old friend over the weekend and he is getting married in a church, that he has never even been to!! Neither he or his fiancee are 'christened' or attend church regularly, but they had no problems at all

Thanks ladies, the church isn't far from where my mum lives so I'm hoping that will go in my favour. We really want it to be a bank holiday weekend as OH runs a business with his dad and step mum and they can't all be off at the same time, they are open Saturdays so it has to be a Sunday, and we don't want everyone worrying about getting up for work the next morning so a bank holiday weekend is perfect.

I think I'm going to give the church a call and see what they say.

They've never even asked us! I just said we lived in the parish and wanted to get married there, they were fine about it. That's church of England, think Catholic ones are a lil more scrict!

He just asked us to go to hear the reading of the banns, 3 weeks before, which is just normal mass anyways. x
