Clarification About Ovulation Please!

In my case, I had my pos OPKs Mon-Wed. According to FF today is the day I'm ovulating. Wouldn't Today and tomorrow technically be the best days to BD? Why do we BD on the surge days if we don't supposedly ovulate until a couple days later? How long does the egg live?

The egg only lives 12 hours, 24 hours max, so the idea is to get as many sperm in there before you ovulate so they are waiting for when your egg pops out. Dont forget it can take some time for the sperm to travel as well, so if you bd the day you O the sperm might not make it there in time.
