Has anybody used clary sage oil in previous pregnancies and been successful at starting your labour off? Just curious as I have read mixes reviews on the internet!
This is my first pregnancy, so I don't have any experience with trying things to induce labour, but I'm looking forward to seeing the replies to this thread I will be starting to take raspberry leaf capsules at 34 weeks (because the tea is vile, apparently) and I will be trying clary sage oil too x
Well im not sure if mine is a sucess story but I was 3 days away from my due date, had a bath for two nights in a row with clary sage, burning it I didnt add it to the bath, and then went into labour the day before my due date. I was also eating pineapple, curry, RLT etc but as I was so close to due date that she may have just been ready to come anyways. Im going to get mine on Monday and start up with the baths again.
I used it in the bath & rubbed it on the bump (diluted!) for about a week before bubs arrived. Bubs was 2 days past due date though so no idea if clary sage played a part. I really liked the smell though & used that plus lavender to sniff during contractions - helped keep me relaxed. Oh and I drank RLT for 5 weeks before the birth - I really liked the taste of the tea!
Eurgh I hate the smell of it! Ive got a bottle and it smells awful! Seems that those who have brought on labour have also used other things too such as RLT etc so maybe it isn't that effective on its own.
This is my first but I've been using clary sage since 38 weeks. i add it to a warm bath every night and soak for 40 mins, and I have it diluted in almond oil which DH rubs on my bump and back every night. I'm 9 days overdue now.
I used it the two nights before I went into labour. The first night, I rubbed it into my tummy (it stank ) and my then-very-mild contractions started at 2am. They continued through the next day, getting gradually more intense, and I rubbed some more into my bump the second night as well. The thing that REALLY got things going for me though was sex. OH and I on the second night, and after I - ahem -orgasmed they kicked off properly. My son was born the next afternoon.
To be honest, I'd be inclined to say that the clary sage oil didn't do much, and that my body was ready for the birth at that point anyway. I used it with my first son and didn't go into labour at all.
